Gamera movies were always the red-headed stepchild of Japanese monster movies. There was scant information in magazines or books about the monster or his series, and what was there was almost always incredibly dismissive and usually wrong. This led to many surprising discoveries when tuning in to the local late night monster movie on TV. American International Pictures Television (AIP-TV) was a godsend in importing genre films from all over the world for American audiences to watch late at night or early in the morning.
