the Two Doctors (1985)

The Two Doctors is a really good Doctor Who serial.  the second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) and the sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) cross paths and end up stopping the Sontarans and some Androgums from getting the key to time travel.

I love these team ups, and it's probably a good thing they are rare, since doing it all the time would take the specialness out of it.

I don't know much about the sixth Doctor, as I've only seen a few of his adventures, but I am looking forward to more of them.  because they were the only two Doctors present, and only had one companion each (Peri and Jamie McCrimmon) we get more time with them than the other two multi-Doctor shows. and the wordplay of the Sixth Doctor was really good, mixing personal pronouns and all.

however, how come the sixth Doctor didn't remember this meeting?  does regeneration leave your memory swiss cheesed?

I seem to remember feeling a bit disappointed with this one when I watched it, for some reason. Of course, it's been a long time.

Unfortunately, though I think Colin Baker is an underrated Doctor, his stories are sometimes problematic. The "Trial of the Time Lord" is the great epic of his version.

I have no idea if there is an "official" explanation or not, but the second Doctor was the one who was punished by the Time Lords for being a renegade. He was stranded on Earth (as the third Doctor), and I seem to remember his companions lost their memories of their adventures. Maybe some memory jiggering went on with him, too?

(Of course, doesn't he work with the Time Lords in this story? Continuity is not at a premium in the entire run of DOCTOR WHO. That's the real answer.)

oh, there's been an explanation- "season 6B" but it's never been adopted as official. fun speculation. I didn't like this one the first time I saw it either, but the informative text really helps. I think this is the only serial of the sixth doctor I've seen all the way through.

and yes, he does work with the Time Lords in this one. it's a fun show.
