Almighty Thor (2011)

my first Asylum movie.  maybe I'll watch more, as this wasn't horrible.

obviously made to cash in on Marvel's Thor it has a few interesting ideas.  it also watches like no one had anything but the basic idea of who and what Thor (from Old Norse Þórr) and the Aesir actually were.

Loki finds the Wand of Watoomb, well, something that looks like it, and kills Odin (Kevin Nash, trying to sound important and almost succeeding) and Baldir.  a young Thor wants vengeance but is easily defeated and nearly killed.  Loki wants Mjöllnir to bring about Ragnorok.

Járnsaxa comes to Thor's rescue, transporting him to modern times, to find the "hammer" (which looks nothing like the one on the box).

it's pretty straightfoward, but not well acted or scripted, and the director seems to think using constant slow motion is a good thing to use during action sequences.  I thought that fad was over.  the effects are pretty decent.

still, I think I'd rather watch this.
