Despicable Me (2010)

Gru is a super villain.  nothing too unusual about this, as super villains are pretty common.  he has unusual minions, but he mostly steals things.  I'm not sure what he does with them afterward, because stealing them without ransom makes you no money. unfortunately, his most amazing weapon is a "freeze ray" which would come in handy for me at times.
he works with an older inventor named Dr. Nefario.  of course he's an evil inventor with that name.  do parents even consider these things?

Nefario is a little hard of hearing.  this was supposed to be a dart gun, and instead I believe it was something that passed methane.  the minions must have a good health plan since they get volunteered for all sorts of experiments.
Gru ends up adopting three girls.  he does this so he can obtain a Shrink Ray that a new super villain, Vector has stolen from large unnamed Asian country.  this of course leads to complications when he starts caring for the girls.  pretty standard movie stuff, actually.
the littlest one loves big fluffy unicorns.  girls and horses.  or horse shaped things.  go figure.
this just made me laugh really hard. in fact, the minions really make the movie.  they speak a strange language which has English words in it, but only Gru seems to understand exactly what they are saying.  he also knows all of them by name.
they aren't always nice to each other.  which is pretty funny too.  here they want kisses good night.  see what having women in the house does?
best Thor impersonation ever.  I really did enjoy the movie.  it's well acted and the animation is nice.  the designs Gru comes up with are refreshingly preposterous, as if instead of saying "what if?" the designers said "why not" and made them outlandish.  it's too bad this has to happen in comedies these days.  stupid realism ruins things!
I didn't care for the original songs very much though.  kind of generic hip hop and nothing that jumped out and made me want to sing it again.  but perhaps I'm not the demographic they were aiming for.
referee minion!  I have to say I'm looking forward to seeing the sequel now.  hope it's got original ideas.
