Superman has
Mr. Mxyzptlk, Batman has
Bat-Mite and Aquaman even has
Qwsp/Quisp. now Robin has...
Larry.
he shows up to bedevil the Titans in one of their cartoons, and isn't nearly as annoying as Bat-mite. it's not stated he's from the 5th dimension, but since he tells us his real name it's pretty easy to guess.
looking at that wiki page... there are a lot more of those imps running around than I ever thought there were.
let's see Xeen Arrow...
Huh. I looked at Wikipedia and I didn't know some of those were considered "imps". I smell a more recent retcon in the works with some of that.
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo...
Didn't think I'd see seeing a reference to Xeen Arrow today. That is probably the single most reprinted Green Arrow solo story. Well, Speedy is there, but y'know what I mean. It's one of the ones Jack Kirby did, and it can be found in both this book and the GA Showcase. It's due to be reprinted again, but in a pricey hardcover you would probably skip.
Thing is, in the story, the whole PLANET is populated by the giants, and Xeen Arrow just coincidentally looks like GA. Yeah, yeah, but comic books. It was in an other dimension, so I will give them that.
It's a silly but fun sci-fi story that somehow revolves around archery. Plus, it's a two-parter!
I had the GA showcase, but it was too silly for me, even. I don't remember Xeen Arrow, but now I'll look for it again, at least once.
ReplyDeleteI don't care for the Thunderbolt being reclassified, but I can see it happening. I mean, the T-Bolt actually changed two Earths at one point, right? LOL
I won't tell you that the Green Arrow stories get any better. There is nice art throughout the book (Kirby, Lee Elias, the Neal Adams story), but GA was pretty much a nothing character during the period reprinted. Honestly, you'd be better off with the book I linked if you can find it. It's in color, all Kirby, and short enough to not be too irritating.
ReplyDelete(My comic shop used to have a surplus of these, I'll try to remember to ask.)
