Megalo-ON!

you know, what works for Oriental Cinema in 1999 doesn't quite work now.  so my whole introduction to the Megaloman episode guide is going to be reworked.  the episodes themselves shouldn't have too much changing to do, but the first part...

there's just no way I can use it.  I tailored a lot of it to Damon's magazine, so I wrote it a bit differently than I would normally.  add to that the omnipresent internet and it's vast amount of information on almost any given subject and I have to do something different.  it's a bit more daunting than I thought it would be, since I thought I was just doing an update. silly me.

it's a good article, and I'm proud of the work Damon, Chris Elam and I did on it.  now that I have clear copies of the original Japanese version (instead of those grainy Italian dubbed ones) it will be a different viewing experience altogether.

who knows?  I might have something new to add to the mix!

  1. Oh, so it wasn't just me who tried to write differently for OC than other 'zines?

  2. well, reading that first bit makes me think I did try to write in an "OC" style, though without the countless jokes Damon would always throw in. or perhaps I was just thinking that way in real life at the time. it's not bad, just not really "me".

  3. It's always illuminating to revisit something after a long time and then wonder what you were thinking when you wrote something. And I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way; it's just that the original intent sometimes gets lost in the mists of time.

I can tell you I definitely wrote differently for OC than anywhere else I submitted stuff. I just let a different side of my personality through than I usually do in my writing (especially at that time). This was most obvious when I wrote two completely different reviews of the same movie once. I said the same thing in both of them, but phrased it differently for Oriental Cinema and Kaiju Review.

...And then I wrote a THIRD review for Xenorama a couple of years later!

  4. now, just what was that review for?

and yeah, it's good to let different sides of your personality come out in different places. OC was a good outlet for more humor, I think.

  5. I do believe it was GENOCIDE. Ironically, I have the English-dubbed version now courtesy of you, and I still haven't watched it!

  6. I watched it once, and then sent it to you. I barely remember anything about it, other than I hated all the characters. you should watch it and report!
