imagine being able to see all these great characters and series in one show. I remember seeing this promo in WV on Channel 20, but sadly, the package was never picked up in Colorado. and even by 1978 I was starting to think the programming for kids was quite lacking in my neck of the woods. we left WV before it started airing, and I had been so looking forward to seeing action cartoons, after the rather anemic Super Friends.
we did get great monster movies, but that was it. I know I sure would have watched this program whenever it aired. this is one exciting promo, and it featured all of their heroes. except Samson and Goliath, they seem to be missing. poor guys!
Samson & Goliath, along with The Space Kidettes where distributed through a different company outside H-B, and to this day, the TV rights are with Program Exchange.
ReplyDeletewell that explains that! did they get shown on Cartoon Network at all?
ReplyDeleteI don't think so at all from memory, unless they weren't seen on "Super Adventures" at one point. I wonder if the rights are tied up with that other group anyway.
ReplyDeleteHere's a bit of footage someone stuck up of Samson & Goliath sharing a half-hour Total TV and Jay Ward material (since that's how odd these things were and I'm sure it led to confusion among many over who did what)!

I do wonder if this had something to do with General Mills if they were the original sponsors to those two cartoons in particular?
ReplyDeleteoddly enough, that package was aired on WGN in the early 90s, which is where I got most of my Samson and Goliath cartoons from. they did have the cool bumpers as well.
ReplyDeleteI did wonder why it had all the Jay Ward material.
Again, whoever it went to (probably "P.A.T. Film Services") simply didn't care for continuity among these shows and saw fit to put together these syndie packages out of a whim. The Jay Ward and Total TV material often got mixed together with no real connection between either besides being outsourced to the same Mexican studio anyway.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for your quick replies by the way! I've been feeling a tad down lately and my birthday's tomorrow.
I wish I could figure out how to get notified of original replies to my posts, because sometimes I don't see them for a few days. I'm technologically impaired, lol.
ReplyDeleteI was just happy to be able to record Samson, as he was one of my early favorites growing up.
hope you have a great birthday!
Well, there may be an option that lets you subscribe to post comments if those are e-mailed to you, I sometimes get them for my posts as well.
