If you ask anyone who watched Saturday morning TV in the 70s who Grumpy is, you have better odds that they will say the Tyrannosaurus rex from Land of the Lost, not the dwarf from folklore. Imagine waking up on a Saturday morning and seeing a huge monster that wanted to eat everything it saw chasing a small family off a raft. Grumpy was terrifying, though perhaps not quite as much as the inhuman Sleestak that also menaced our heroes. The show managed to scare kids and not get taken off the air once.
Of course, Grumpy had a female equal in Alice, the Allosaurus fragilison the other side of the chasm. We waited for the eventual meeting of the two monsters, and we were not disappointed when it finally happened. Grumpy never did seem very smart, since the Marshalls used what they called a "flyswatter" on him more than once, and he never learned.
