Sven- The Invisible Man (1933)

Dr. Jack Griffin manages to make an invisibility formula from monocane, and dangerous drug, and a variety of other chemicals.  He rents a room in an inn, and is trying to find a way to make him visible again.  Unfortunately, the innkeepers nosy wife makes his life difficult, and between her and the drugs he loses his mind.  He then decides he is superior to regular people and goes on a murder spree.  A snowstorm brings about his undoing, as he cannot wear clothes and must take shelter in a barn.  He is discovered sleeping in the hay by the farmer, and as he tries to escape he is fatally shot.  He returns to visibility on his death.

I am in awe of Claude Rains' performance.  In superhero movies all almost all of them have to remove their masks every five seconds in case the audience forgets who they are.  We don't even see Rains' face until the last seconds of the movie, and it didn't matter at all.  It is a great movie and as we have seen, spawned spinoffs and sequels all over the place.  The special effects still astound these days as well.
