Jack Russell inherits his family curse. His father read a few pages of the deadly Darkhold book, and was turned into a werewolf. This was the fault of his ancestor, Grigory, who was bitten by a werewolf after he staked Dracula. Somehow, she was in the vampire's service. Be that as it may, the curse was released when Gregory read those cursed pages. Jack then met loads of other magic monsters, from the Frankenstein creature, to golems, to demons, to zombies and even other werewolves. He fought vampires regularly, and even Dracula, who could not command him. Eventually, Jack was able to turn into the wolf on non-full moon nights. These nights he had full control of himself.
Who knew you could paste a picture? Anyway, this was introduction to the Marvel 70s horror line, with a werewolf as a main character. Somehow Marvel got 41 issues off this premise, as well as four giant size specials. The werewolf was almost always the lesser of the two or more evils per story. I am sure this is why I have always favored were-creatures over other ones. I know Jack is still around- only one way to kill a werewolf- but I have lost track of him. The movie was great, though.
