Calvin is nothing if not a showman. Trying to avoid something unpleasant is a skill, and generally the mother of invention. However, he needs to work on his schpiel, since he rarely sells anything to his intended victims. Hobbes, his parents, Susie, and even Moe don't seem to fall for them. The important thing is he keeps trying.
So he is persistent as well. If his parents could have directed this energy and drive into the right places, Calvin would take over the world. Or become its greatest benefactor. We will never know, and that is the best part of the strip.
