I have no idea where this came from, or if it's an actual promo for the 60s Marvel cartoons, but it's really a cool little introduction to the series. and the song itself rocks pretty hard. it's actually better than most of the original songs.

The Three Stooges (2012)
going to watch this movie before too long. I'm no real fan of the Farrelly brothers. their movies can have funny parts, but gross out humor is something I just don't care for at all. I don't think this one has that much of it, which will be a good thing. just from the beginning I may wish I had seen this in the theater after all.

Teen Titans Full Theme Song
here's the full theme song to the series. before I actually sat down and watched the show, I said it was the best thing about it. I'm still right, but I liked the show quite a bit more than I did originally.

Gorath (1962)
Watched this movie subtitled a few days ago. I've seen the dubbed version a few times, but never cared for it that much. a lot of it was wanting to see the giant walrus that was edited out of the US version (and rightly so, it's not needed at all).

Mebius & Jack vs. Deathrem
Ultraman Jack teams up with the youngest, and yet most powerful (at the time) Ultraman, Mebius to defeat Deathrem. I'm rusty on the previous aliens the various Ultras have fought (there's a lot) so I am not sure if this is one of Jack's foes from his series. Hideki Go rocks, though.

Jungle Jim (1937)
Universal made good looking serials back in the day. I was not familiar at all with Jungle Jim as a property, but had heard of several of the movies.
there are a ton of them, but he got his start in the funny papers, via Alex Raymond. heck, I didn't even know that, though it seems like I should. the serial begins with someone opening the paper to the comics and that's how the recap is done. it works well, though it definitely became a cliche before too long. I wonder how many serials actually begin this way?

King Kong vs. Godzilla debate
I remember watching this on TBS on some Saturday or Sunday morning. it was always full of corny, the Super Scary Saturdays, but having Michael Hayes vs Jim Cornette was pretty fun. they didn't even look like they rehearsed those lines, they are so good on the stick.

Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla (2002)
this is a fun entry in the series. too bad about the title, since it's been used twice already. I guess adding the "X" makes it somehow different. it's better than the 90s MG movie, which wasn't hard to do. it clocks in at less than 90 minutes, which is a plus. the lousy CG recreation of the "first" Godzilla dying is a minus.

Octopus vs Golden Gate bridge
this is the crowning moment of this fun movie. a giant octopus pulls down an American landmark. what could be better than that? being in glorious black and white, that's what!

the GOOD Brain
here he is giving Pinky a dinosaur stamp. what better gift could there possibly be for a genetically altered lab mouse?
that's something all geniuses should do from time to time, give their friends dinosaur stamps and or stickers.

The Phantom Trailer
I really like this movie, and can't for the life of me figure out why people don't. of course, I can't figure out why it wasn't a huge hit and didn't spawn 15 sequels, but it's probably not "dark and gritty" enough for today's audiences. or even audiences in 1996.
Darkest Africa (1936)
this was Republic's first ever serial, and it's a pretty good one.
it stars Clyde Beatty as himself, and features his animal taming act a lot. almost too much, as it just looks like animal cruelty to me now. not to mention the tiger vs lion battle in one chapter was hard to watch. I actually fast forwarded through it. he's got a natural presence and is not a bad actor, thank goodness.

Monster From Green Hell (1957)
this is a movie I always wanted to see growing up, and of course, it never showed in my area. or at least not while I was there. I think I would have really enjoyed a jungle adventure with giant animated wasp monsters. that's the big selling point, and for years, I don't even remember that being reported in the monster mags.

Batman the Animated Series
watched the entire run of this series recently, and listened to all the audio commentaries for the episodes they were offered on. it's a good thing to actually want MORE commentaries, as usually I'm indifferent to them at best. these are really fun and informative though.

Kamen Rider X Opening Subbed
I'll admit it, I love this show. I had the opening on here a while ago, but it's gone now, so here it is, subtitled in English this time. it's too bad they've only got the first six episodes done, but one shouldn't complain too much, if at all, since they do it for free.

Captain Video: Master of the Stratosphere (1951)
I've been watching a lot of serials recently, some good (both Superman ones) and some adequate (too many to name, but Hurricane Express was one). they are fun, and obviously not meant to be watched one chapter after another. the viewer can see how they cheat the death traps a lot easier than if you only watch a chapter a week. it doesn't actually take away from any of the fun, especially if you are watching through adult eyes. those eyes, and ears, make some of the lines more humorous than intended. especially if our heroes use a weapon called "the cosmic vibrator" and call it that.

Ultra Seven Theme song
one of the cool things about Ultra Seven is that half of the songs contain a bunch of English words. heck, one of them is completely in English! makes it a lot easier to sing along with, I'll tell you what. pretty sure they were hoping for another US release, and it's too bad United Artists didn't pick this one up. this is just a couple exciting fight clips set to the theme song.

Happy Birthday, Eiji Tsuburaya
the visionary behind both Ultraman and Godzilla, and hence, nearly the entire Japanese sci-fi movie industry was born today in 1901. here's just a few images of his "children". thank you, Eiji-san for everything.

The Phenomenauts - She'll Launch
this band should be way more popular than it is. aside from great music they have a pretty cool message. "Science and Honor" is their motto. they have a sci-fi bent, and more bands should be like this.

Happy 40th, Kikaida!
today (what's left of it) marks the 40th anniversary of the first telecast of Jinzo Ningen Kikaida in Japan. if you want all sorts of details about this date, go here to my pal Augie's blog (it's great). that will tell you everything you need to know about the date, time and place and creation among all sorts of other wonderful information.

Captain America (1944) - Trailer
despite the changes to the costume and character (which really make no sense at all) this is one bang up serial. it's very enjoyable to watch if one doesn't go all comic book geeky on it.

Marine Boy meets Cli Cli
was anyone else ever disappointed that there was no real story for this monster that menaced Neptina in the credits? or the robot sea spider? I always wanted to see who made them or where it came from. mostly just to make an exciting opening sequence.

They Stooge to Conga (1943)
"you're dizzy in low places!" but Moe really pays for his insults and overall brutality this time. long regarded as the most violent scene in all of the Stooges shorts, I'd have to agree with that statement.
Captain America #255
John Byrne and Roger Stern had an excellent run on Captain America in the early 80s. this issue was a celebration of Cap's 40th anniversary. I can't believe it's now 20 years later. reading the letters page now is interesting, as the desire of Stern and Byrne was to create the "definitive" life story of Cap. of course, with the stupid idea of having Bucky be alive now has ruined some of it.
this was their way to try to tie several of the loose ends in contiunity, like why Cap changed his shield and his helmet, whether it was a shot, a potion or "vita-rays" that turned him into the super soldier (apparently it was all three), how he got assigned in the army and more. it does a really good job of fitting things into that damnable continuity that has now become so convoluted and such a drag to try to get through.
reading it again, I'd say it was still the definitive biography. happy birthday, America.

The CRAMPS - People Ain't No Good
this is a live performance from the awesome band, the Cramps. I arrived late to Cramps fandom, but it was this album "A Date With Elvis" that brought me to it. I still like their music, and all the other songs I've heard of theirs.
Sym-Bionic Titan
three aliens crash land on Earth. two are teenage humanoids and one is a robot with very unique powers. they are from a planet that was under attack and her father sent her away to protect her.

Spectreman Stage Show 2000
recorded at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood in the summer of 2000, this is Damon Foster's presentation of a Superhero Stage show. Mike Keller and Madison Carter were my partners in crime for this- I was just the brainwashed thrall. I can hardly believe that was 12 years ago now. this is a much cleaner copy than the one I had, probably first gen. gotta love it.

Moon Zero Two (1969)
never saw this movie growing up, and I'm not sure I would have liked it very much if I had. it's not an action packed sci-fi adventure, but it's a good movie. it's billed as the Moon's first "western" and that title fits. the cartoon opening is pretty cute and the effects are all well done. the music is just what you'd expect from the time period, but it works for the film.
