I do kind of wish the movie was more magical than science fiction, though I haven't heard just what makes Thor's hammer work. I applaud the makers for keeping the movie under two hours.

Yup Malekith and the Dark Elves first appeared during Simonson's first year in his classic run on Thor. Too bad you still weren't reading the book then; it really lives up to the hype.
I read some of the run, but I didn't care for the whole Beta Ray Bill story line back then.
