another cool reprint for Cap's 70th Anniversary. again recolored to try to appeal to fans who probably won't like it anyway (Cap smiles way too much for one thing) that's just their loss.
the art is dynamic. well, sure, of course it is, you know who did it. this book is almost all Cap stories, and Bucky is introduced right away. it's that willing suspension of disbelief that no one would see someone Cap calls "Bucky" who is the same age as the camp mascot wouldn't put two and two together, but that's also part of the charm of comics.
boy I miss that charm.
anyway, the big deal here is the first appearance of the Red Skull. he's killed in here, but Simon and Kirby realized he was far too cool a character to keep dead and brought him back several times.
anyway, the two other features are a story of the Hurricane, the Son of Thor with the power of the Greek Gods. uh, what? how does that happen? I think later he gets retconned into Makkari, the Eternal.
the final story was of Tuk, Cave Boy. apparently he lasted only five issues in Cap's series. nicely drawn, but nothing special.

About Hurricane: yes, you are correct. It happened in the short-lived but excellent Marvel Universe series written by Roger Stern.
There was a second Simon & Kirby/Timely character named Mercury who preceded Hurricane (and was part of the above retcon, too). Hurricane is just a refurbished Mercury, which is why the mythological aspect of Hurricane doesn't seem to make sense.

thanks for the link. I thought they were both Makkari, which actually makes sense if you have to include the Eternals in the Marvel U proper.
I really hate what they've done with Bucky now, btw.
and the Monster Hunters were fun.
