This really is a fun and strange cartoon. It's pretty action packed, but there are just weird things going on, which is always necessary for drama, but the AIP version makes things even a bit weirder. I'll be going over the differences between the Japanese and US versions (at least the first episode) in issue #20 of Xenorama, so you'll have a bit of a wait for that. The violence isn't up to the level of 8th Man, but there is a lot of it, though never graphic like some cartoons seem to think is fun.
There are a few instances of our heroes celebrating death and destruction of various bad guys. While it's understandable given the time period, and that some of the scenes are played for laughs, it's a little disconcerting on occasion.
These days viewers do think of the consequences of changing a whale into a speedboat, though I'm sure the Prince changed it back after, but the creators just wanted to tell an entertaining story at that point. Most shows are like that at that time period. The good guys are always justified in what they are doing, regardless of the collateral damage that might happen around them.
I still love this show!

The intern hired to charge up Prince Planet's pendant better not sleep on the job!
that's a common element, but it doesn't happen in every episode. I should have kept track for the next issue!
I recall Dave Merrill once did a piece of fanart joking on the character getting scolded for having done so.
