The Black Scorpion (1957) is a fun monster movie, featuring some wonderful animation from Willis O'Brien and Pete Peterson. Most of it is by Pete. The movie fails slightly at the end, without the heroes being directly involved in the scorpions demise.
It was one of the last stop-motion monster movies to be released on DVD. The print is great, and it's got some really cool extras. I wish I had seen it when I was younger, I know I would love the movie now.
Scorpions are plenty scary looking, but the bigger they are, the less toxic their poison is. Like large spiders, they rely on their strength to overpower their prey rather than their poison. That is a last defense for them.
