Sven- The Brides of Dracula (1960)

A young French schoolteacher has a new job in Tranylvania.  No one wants to take her to it.  The Baroness Meinster asks her to be a guest for the night in her castle.  While there, Marianne meets and frees Baron Meinster, the son and vampire.  After she escapes, she is found by Dr. van Helsing.  This leads him and the local priest to figure out there is yet another vampire on the loose, and after several more deaths (mostly the girls at the school) van Helsing manages to destroy this disciple of Dracula once and for all. This is a sequel to The Horror of Dracula- "Transylvania, land of dark forests, dread mountains and black unfathomable lakes. Still the home of magic and devilry as the nineteenth century draws to its close. Count Dracula, monarch of all vampires, is dead. But his disciples live on to spread the cult and corrupt the world." as the opening narration proves.   Boy, do Hammer movies look great.  David Peel is fine as the vampire, but he does not have the magnetic presence that Chris Lee has as the count.  Dracula is only mentioned twice in the movie.  It is a good movie, but it is secondary in the Hammer Dracula movies.  I would like to see Sven show Legend of 7 Golden Vampires.

Next- The Devil's Rain (again)
