Return of the Fist (2010)

No, that's not Kato from any faux Green Hornet movie out there, it's Donnie Yen starring as Chen Zhen in the sequel to Jet Li's Fist of Legend.  The full title of the movie is something like Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen, which I think is the official title.  It's only fitting there's a sequel to one of Jet's best movies, since Bruce's version has about 214 or so unofficial ones.  Or maybe some of those are official, it's not really worth finding out.  I haven't seen one that was as good as FIST OF FURY, and that really isn't a very good movie.  Take Bruce out of it and no one would remember it at all.  It's better than The Big Boss, but that's not saying much.

Anyway, this one follows Chen's story after the first one.  He goes to fight for the Allies in WWI, and then returns to China to fight in the underground against the Japanese incursion.  Naturally this ends up with a lot of fighting and explosions.  Thankfully,  there is a lack of that horrid bullet time and spinning the camera around on it's axis.

It's a pretty brutal movie, with scenes of torture and murder, plus some great fight scenes.  It's also sort of historical, and moves a bit slower than what newer martial arts fans might enjoy.  Chen does don the rather familiar looking garb of Kato, which is kind of cool.  I'd like this a lot more if it weren't so brutal, but that is how movies like these are now.  Sure, the Shaws were awash in blood, but you really didn't see how it happened.

I wonder if there will be a third movie.
