A Shot in the Dark (1964)

A murder has been committed at the Ballon Manor.  Inspector Clouseau is assigned to the case.  This once again causes Chief Inspector Dreyfuss no end of consternation.  Everyone is convinced that Maria Gambrelli is the culprit, but there is a lot more that meets the eye going on.  M'sieu Ballon wants Clouseau on the case, simply because of his ineptitude.  Naturally, this doesn't work out for the guilty party at all.  Nor does it work out for Dreyfuss.

This is the second Clouseau movie starring Peter Sellers, and it arguably the best.  It was based on a play and had the regular case substituted in.  The comedy is physical and verbal, and it all works really well.  We don't get the Pink Panther theme, but we do get introduced to the snazzy Inpsector theme, which would be carried over to his cartoon series.

It is a great comedy.
