Little Norse Prince (1968)

Hols ends up with an ancient, giant sword from a living mountain, and has to fight the dreaded Grunwald.  Ol Grunny wants to takeover the world, or at least that unnamed part of Norway the story is set in.  Complicating matters is an odd woman named Hilda, who is more and less than she seems.  She sows mistrust against Hols in the village they are in.  Naturally, Grunwald attacks the village with his ice mammoth, the sword is sharpened and the final battle begins.  Rockoar shows up as well.  All the things combine and our heroes get a happy ending.

I have had this disc for about four years, and just now got around to watching it.   I had found a fan subtitled version somewhere online, or an upload of the original DVD version.  Later, Amazon had the AIP dub for viewing, in a full screen version.  I was glad this had the US dub and English subtitles, it is fun to compare what was said, and how Peter Fernandez adapted the script.

The AIP dub features a lot of the Titra crew, who all voice several characters.  Peter is not listed at all, but since he usually left his voice credits out when he wrote scripts, that is normal. There are no English dub credits on this disc, but it has a lot of extras.  The subs call Hols "Horus" which makes no sense from a Scandinavian viewpoint.  I think it is a far too literal translation of "Hols" which could be rendered as "Holusu" or "Horusu" from the katakana.

It is a beautiful movie, and I am glad that all of it has been preserved.
