Namor, the Avenging Son, declared war against the United States for destroying his people. It wasn't intentional, but it still happened. He caused all kinds of damage, but somehow fell under the spell of Betty Dean, a police woman assigned to stop him. He went after nazis for a while, then battled the Human Torch for a while. Later he became part of the Invaders, and then all kinds of interesting things happened. He returned to battle the Fantastic Four and Dr. Doom and still can't quite make up his mind as to his ultimate goals.
Namor, along with the Torch, were Timely/Marvel's first successes. They fought a lot of unnamed saboteurs before WW2, but it was pretty obvious who they were. Namor is considered Marvel's first mutant anti-hero, though he pretty much was a general hero after the war started. Marvel has tried to maintain the anti-hero thing, but come on, after being around for over 100 years, Namor should have matured past that these days.
I like him a lot more than I did as a kid. I wasn't exposed to him much, as Aquaman had a cartoon and could talk to marine life.
