Samurai Jack (2001)

Started watching this cartoon the other day.  Seems like it has lots of fans, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

It has it's own definite look, that's for sure.  It's a pretty cool story, as "Jack" battles to destroy the demon Aku (Japanese for "demon" so he's the demon Demon).  Before he can kill Aku with his magic sword, Aku sends him into the future.  Naturally Aku rules the Earth by then, since Jack is the only person who can defeat him.  So the story so far is Jack is trying to get back in time to defeat Aku and prevent the future that he's in at the moment.

Damn time travel stories!

There's a lot to like here.  Witness the "horse" from the second episode, which is right out of "Thundarr the Barbarian".  There are a lot of such touches from other cartoons- one of the talking dogs in the same episode is very close to Mr. Peabody as well.

So far there's a lot of swordplay here, and Jack is almost an unstoppable killing machine.  Most of the things he's killed are demons or some kind of weird demon robot hybrid.  Otherwise it would be as bloody as any 70s chambara.  I'm looking forward to watching at least the rest of the first season, since that's all Netflix has to offer, and there's three more seasons out there to see.
