The new Shmoo

 From Wiki- The New Shmoo is an American animated television series based on the character from the Li'l Abner comic strip created by Al Capp, produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions and broadcast on NBC from September 22 to December 15, 1979.^[1]

Similar to Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! on CBS and later ABC, the show follows a group of teenagers—Mickey, Nita, and Billy Joe—who solve mysteries and crimes with their friend, Shmoo, a friendly bulbous creature who can stretch and shape his body into any form he wants. The teens worked for Mighty Mysteries Comics.Back to me:

Space Ghost merch

In my Space Ghost research for a new issue of Xenorama, I found several Hanna-Barbera toys or whatever you would all this.  This would look cool, and I always think I would want such things, but then... it is just stuff.  Do I actually need it?  Probably not.  And where would I even find one?  Be that as it may, it sure is cool!  HB sure fell down on the job with merchandise in the sixties, they could have made tons more money with licensing.

Hex Girls show (we wish)

 Yes, I love the Hex Girls, for a wide variety of reasons.  I would go to this show.

646. Jonny Quest of the 80s: 10-13, series finale!

                      Here is the ultimate episode about the 80s Jonny Quest adventures.  It is a pretty good series, considering the time frame.

639. Jonny Quest in the 80s! 07-09 in review!

                    This show is almost great, and is quite surprising for the time period.  The 80s were not known for having action-packed cartoons.

                      Another set of pretty good episodes is looked at here.  This show is such a pleasant surprise, I'll tell you what.

Johnny and Jessie Bradshaw

 

This comes from the fourth episode of the New Adventures of Jonny Quest (1986) "Deadly Junket."  The plot is similar to Jonny's Golden Quest, but this time Jessie isn't related to Race at all.  It does also feature Dr. Zin, once again voiced by the great  Vic Perrin.  Zin is using Jessie's father, Dr. Bradshaw, to further an anti-missile system.  I bet they are still waiting for it to this day.  Be that as it may, this is a decent episode, though I do think they should have spaced the Dr. Zin episodes out a bit more.

RIP Joe Ruby (five years and two days ago)

 

From Wiki- Joseph Clemens Ruby (March 30, 1933 – August 26, 2020)^[1] was an American animator, writer, television producer, and music editor. He was best known as a co-creator of the animated Scooby-Doo franchise, together with Ken Spears. In 1977, they co-founded the television animation production company Ruby-Spears Productions.^[2] Ruby would work with Spears and would co-create several other shows including, Fangface, Dynomutt, Dog Wonder and Jabberjaw among others.  Ruby would meet Spears in 1959 at Hanna-Barbera, when the studio was being interviewed by Life Magazine^[3] and the two would start working together on animated shows. Before Ruby founded Ruby-Spears he would work with at several studios including Walt Disney Animation Studios, Hanna-Barbera, DePatie–Freleng Enterprises and with Sid and Marty Krofft. In 1996, the Ruby-Spears studio closed, and Ruby would keep working with Spears until his retirement in 2002.  Ruby died on August 26, 2020. Spears died three months later of natural causes. He was 87 years old.  Back to a slightly embarrassed me:

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids (1973)

From Wiki- Similar to both Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! and Josie and the Pussycats on CBS, the show depicts the adventures of the titular teen pop group.^[3] The band consists of 4 heartthrobs: Butch Cassidy (lead vocals and lead guitar); mini-skirted blonde beauty Merilee (tambourine); sensible Stephanie, nicknamed Steffy (bass guitar); and curly-haired Wally (drums). Accompanied by Wally's dog Elvis, these popular rock stars lead double lives as government-backed crime-fighters.^[4]  The teens are advised by a supercomputer named Mr. Socrates, who is (somehow) violently allergic to dogs. When the group meets with Mr. Socrates in his lair for their latest assignment, Elvis is always told to stay outside. Yet Elvis always ends up inside the lair, by his own ingenuity and/or by Wally's forgetfulness. Elvis's mere presence causes Mr. Socrates to sneeze and go haywire; Mr. Socrates then sends the group out of the lair, and off to their assignment. Butch, designated as "Sundance 1", wears a special communicator-ring which keeps him in contact with Mr. Socrates.  Back to me:

Xenorama #71- The Heculoids!

The 71st issue of Xenorama has been published, and it is all about the Herculoids!  Yes, we did an issue in black and white featuring the cartoon, but this time, we included the Space Stars episodes, toys, and comic book appearances of the series.  Did I mention it was all in full color?  Well, it is, and it looks smashing, I must say!  I would like to do more of the Hanna-Barbera Super TV Heroes like this, but really, only Space Ghost and the Herculoids have made enough impact.  Well, we do have a Jonny Quest issue that will be out next year, so there is that.  Yes, I am quite aware of the "comedy" shows that have been done, but someone else can write about them, should they like.  I would not like.  Be that as it may, normally I would have a trailer here for Sven's movie, but the next two weeks are the Dr. Phibes movies, and we have reviewed them and seen the trailers already, so I will figure out what to talk about instead of them.

pity poor Godzilla 1978

I was rather excited when I saw the ads for The Godzilla Power Hour in the comic books.  It looked pretty good.  There were some interviews published right before the show debuted in Starlog or some genre zine, which made it sound decent.  By then I knew that there would not be a lot of great monster action, so I did not expect that.  Jana of the Jungle looked good, and at age 13, I appreciated it on a whole 'nother level.  The first episode I remember seeing was The Earth Eater, which is technically the second episode.  I am not sure if I missed the first one (seems odd, dontcha think?) or if the local network started differently.  I don't ever remember seeing the first episode at all, though.  There is a reason for that as well, because of course there is.  And I will elaborate more about that reason after the cut, so click on "there's more" please!
