Dell's Atlantis, the Lost Continent (1961) comic book

From Wiki- Atlantis, the Lost Continent is a 1961 American science fiction film in Metrocolor produced and directed by George Pal and starring Sal Ponti (under the screen name of Anthony Hall), Joyce Taylor, and John Dall. The film was distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.[2] It was the last film for John Dall.[3]

The film's storyline concerns the events leading up to the total destruction of the mythical continent of Atlantis during the time of Ancient Greece. Back to me:

Villain of the Week- Killer Kane

From Wiki- In the comic strip, Kane was a dark-haired, mustachioed soldier. Kane first appeared in the January 30, 1929 comic strip.[3] He was romantically involved with Wilma Deering; however, after Wilma left him for Buck Rogers, Kane became a criminal and Buck's mortal enemy.[3] Kane carried out numerous criminal schemes and attempted to kill Buck on numerous occasions. Kane was often assisted by his girlfriend, Ardala Valmar.[2][3] Movie serial Kane is a "super-racketeer" who became the supreme dictator of Earth with the help of his criminal army. Although the events of the serial transpire in the year 2440, Kane has apparently ruled the world for some time before that. He was portrayed by actor Anthony Warde. On the 1979 television series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Kane is reimagined as a defector from Earth to the Draconian Realm, a powerful empire said to have conquered three quarters of the known universe. Known simply as "Kane" in this version, he is the supreme commander of the Draconian forces under Emperor Draco. While the original Killer Kane was the absolute leader, on the television series, Kane answers to Draco and (grudgingly) his daughter Princess Ardala, who acts as Draco's emissary (although Princess Ardala did not appear in the 1939 serial). In this version, Ardala is a Princess (which she was not in the original comic strips) who also commands Kane (in the comics, it was Ardala who was Kane's subordinate).[3]  Back to me:

Adventures into the Unknown! #13

I sure would have bought this right off the stand, had I seen it and been alive to see it.  It was published in August of 1950, so there was no chance of finding it on a spinner rack.  However, I would have been disappointed.  Lots of semi-horror stories and sci-fi stuff, but not a dinosaur attacking a city at all.  There is an octopus style alien which seems to have a happy ending for all, so that would have been fun.  I would have wondered why there was no dinosaur story, but now I know the cover was to catch the eyes of young readers (like me),

This is so much fun, but yeah, you do have to know about the characters to really enjoy it.

Villain of the Week- Dr. Sivana

From Wiki-  Thaddeus Bodog Sivana is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Doctor Sivana is the archnemesis of Captain Marvel created by Bill Parker and C. C. Beck, first appearing in Whiz Comics #2 (cover-dated February 1940) by Fawcett Comics.[1] A mad scientist and inventor bent on world domination, the character was established as Captain Marvel's main archenemy during the Golden Age, appearing in over half of the Fawcett Captain Marvel stories published between 1939 and 1953.[2] Sivana has kept his role as one of the key archenemies of Captain Marvel (now Shazam) throughout the character's appearances in DC Comics, which eventually acquired the rights to Fawcett's superhero characters. In 2009, Doctor Sivana was ranked as IGN's 82nd-greatest comic book villain of all time.[3][4]  Infamously evil, Doctor Sivana appeared in well over half of all of the Golden Age Captain Marvel comic stories, and in all of the first four stories, after having deduced Captain Marvel's dual identity as boy radio broadcaster Billy Batson early on. Depicted as a brilliant, if evil, scientist, Sivana used all manner of unusual inventions and techniques against the Marvels. He was at first a good man who wanted to help humanity, but big business, bosses, and other concerns blocked and checked him and even called him mad, until, embittered, he turned against humanity and moved to Venus. He somehow held high status among the beings of the planet Venus.[5] He returned to Earth, establishing himself as a villain, and clashed with Capt. Marvel in the latter's first fight.  Eventually back to me:

594. Lil Abner, the 1959 Musical!

I haven't really talked too much about ol' Lil Abner.  I am not that familiar with most of the characters, though of course I have known of them my whole life.

542. The Spirit of '87!

Yes, I rather enjoy this movie for what it is, and would have watched the (probably one season of it) series.

Eek! A Spirit from the 80s!

I have never read many of the actual The Spirit comic books.  I tried in the 90s or so, but just couldn't do it.  The artwork was great, though. Which is rather redundant, but by that time the book was barely about the actual hero the Spirit.  I dunno, I just couldn't get into it.
