It is not 114 minutes of wrong, though it sure could have been better.

From Wiki- Green Lantern: The Animated Series is an American animated superhero television series based on the DC Comics superhero Green Lantern. The series aired on Cartoon Network, as part of their "DC Nation" television block. A one-hour^[1] sneak peek aired on November 11, 2011,^[2][3] it ran from March 17, 2012, until March 16, 2013.^[4][5] A special screening of the first episode was shown at New York Comic Con 2011 on October 15.^[6] This was the first Green Lantern television series and the first CGI DC/WB series. The series was cancelled after one season due to poor toy sales after the negative reception and poor box office performance of the live-action film.^[7]  Me again:

HOTW- Green Lantern (Alan Scott)

"And I shall shed my light over dark evil, for the dark things cannot stand the light— the light of the Green Lantern!" 

Alan Scott received his magic lantern and ring in 1940.  He was a founding member of the Justice Society of America and would continue to battle crime until after WWII when he retired.  That lasted less than 15 years, when the JSA reactivated in the 60s, thanks to the Flash.  He would marry Rose and Thorn, and they had two kids.  Then he married the original Harlequin, and things were sorta peachy.  DC has done a lot of retcons since I stopped reading comic books, so if you want more history, look it up yourself.

The Silve Age Green Lantern v.1

DC Comics bought the Flash back as a new character in 1956.  This was a big hit, and they then immediately brought the Green Lantern back as a new character... in 1959.  There were a lot of other tryouts in Showcase Comics, which were probably ready to go before they decided on the basis for Hal Jordan.  Instead of the magical Lantern from the 40s, this Green Lantern was part of the Lensmen Patrol Green Lantern Corps, an interstellar police unit.  They are sent on missions by the Guardians of the Universe, based on OA.  Each of the 3600 members makes use of a power battery, mostly in the form of a ring, that harnesses the use of the bearer's will.  It has one weakness, the color yellow.  This is due to a necessary impurity in the main battery on OA.  Hal Jordan meets his other Lanterns, and joins the JLA and has a lot of adventures.

Legends of the Superheroes (1979)

 

I got this DVD exactly one year ago today.  I watched both specials last week.  Oh my...

When I saw the ad for "Challenge of the Superheroes" in the TV Guide I was really excited.  All those heroes vs all those villains.  Sure, I knew that Mordru had no business being there with most of them, but then, neither did Earth S' Captain Marvel or Dr. Sivana.  It was billed as a battle, and I was looking forward to some good fisticuffs between the "Justice League" and the Legion of Doom.  There would also be live action versions of such heroes as Green Lantern and Hawkman, and many others who had never been portrayed before.  I was really looking forward to this.

Xenorama #32

Here's the next cover! This is the biggest issue ever, at least in page count.  It's over two hundred pages and nicely illustrated by comics from my own collection.  Some of the covers show the wear and tear from over 50 years of age.  It features many of my favorite heroes and monster from that same range of time.  I included a few runs of the various books that flowed together, but usually I picked one story from whatever subject I was talking about.  The biggest problem I had was in limiting my selections to just a few stories, and saving some for the next time I want to write about comic books and comic book accessories.  Because I am almost sure that this will happen again.

Justice League: War

Haven't I already seen this story before? And in a better format?  Apparently it's based on some new version of the origin of the JLA, and it's mostly a combination of the first episode of the JLA animated series and the last episode of the JLU.  And not nearly as well done.  I haven't read any of this "New 52" stuff and I based on this I'm rather glad I didn't.

Pet sidekicks to superheroes

One of the fun things about comics from the 50s and 60s is that our heroes had pets that occasionally helped them out of various jams whilst fighting crime and villains.  I read more Krypto stories back then, so he's high on my list of favorites.  I saw a few stories about the Legion of Super Pets and I did know who Proty was, but I never read origin stories of Comet, Beppo or Streaky back in the day.  I do think my cat Thuvia is a relative of Streaky, though.

Xenorama 18 cover

Not a hoax! Not a dream! Not an imaginary tale!  Nor even an April Fool's joke!  Here's the new cover to Xenorama #18.  I'm pretty excited about it, Dan Ross has done it again.  There's more stuff in  here than just on the cover, but you'll have to buy the issue to see just what else is in it.  I think it's a pretty great issue as well.

Green Lantern's Light!

There's only four pages left to fill for the next issue of Xenorama.  It's full of great stuff already, I'm not sure what is left to put in it.  Maybe I'll just find some great pictures and fill it up that way.  Probably not, unless I draw a blank at anything else to put in there.  I'll tell you what, it's a very green issue, as I've alluded to in the past already.  I think it's pretty good as well.  I've included some stuff that's already been printed, though it got truncated and one article that probably wouldn't have seen the light of day except in my own magazine.

B/W Xenorama #15 is go!

As mentioned two whole days ago, I've redone Xenorama #15 in black and white.  It's available here, directly, and on Amazon here.  I expect most everyone that wants #15 already has it, but hopefully some people who didn't want to pay $8 or whatever it is on Amazon (usually considerably less these days) will decide to try it.  It's a good start issue.

DC Superheroes

Doing some research for Xenorama #18 (my favorite kind, watching cartoons!) and talking to Chis Elam led me to this menu for the original DC Superheroes DVD set.  Aside from the fact that all 18 episodes PLUS the documentary could have easily been on one disc, there's this slight continuity problem, as any rabid fanboy might notice and complain about (I think I did already).

Green Lantern eps 1 and 2

I have not watched this series, so this will be my first viewing as well. I miss 2D animation a lot, this just looks like every other cg cartoon out there. Apparently this series deals with all sorts of different colors of Lanterns (an idea I entertained when I was about 8 and gave it up as silly even then). I'm not particularly a fan of that idea, either. Sinestro's yellow ring was unique. Now? Not so much.

Kookie Batman

There are just some things Batman shouldn't say. Frank Miller showed us this recently, but in the second JLA story Gardner Fox did as well.  I understand that it was hip to say back then, but it's a dopey word no matter who says it.  did Snapper have such a big influence on Batman, or perhaps the word bubble is coming from the wrong person?

JLA: Metamorphosis (22, 23)

this is a self absorbed self centered douche bag named Simon Stagg.  he was that way in the comics and he's that way in these two episodes. he's trying to create an genetically gifted worker that can adapt itself to any conditions.  he calls this creation "Metamorpho"  and he's using illegal mutagens to do this.

JLA: Legends (18, 19)

or as some of us might call it, "Crisis on Two Earths"...

Luthor has attacked the city (with a robot slightly resembling Annihilus) and defeating it causes the Flash, GL, Hawkgirl and the Martian Manhunter (they never call him this) to be sent to an alternate Earth.  let's call it Earth 2A.  in the commentary of the second episode they say they really wanted to use the JSA, but DC told 'em no.  there's no sequel if they did!

Green Lantern "Evil is as Evil Does"

we are still in the 60s, when so many great cartoons were made. this is Filmation's version of Green Lantern and I remember being stunned to actually see one of his cartoons when I was growing up. I didn't even KNOW he'd ever been animated. I'd seen the Superman, Superboy, Batman and Aquaman cartoons, but to find out there were other heroes that were animated? heaven.
