Villain of the Week- Killer Kane

From Wiki- In the comic strip, Kane was a dark-haired, mustachioed soldier. Kane first appeared in the January 30, 1929 comic strip.[3] He was romantically involved with Wilma Deering; however, after Wilma left him for Buck Rogers, Kane became a criminal and Buck's mortal enemy.[3] Kane carried out numerous criminal schemes and attempted to kill Buck on numerous occasions. Kane was often assisted by his girlfriend, Ardala Valmar.[2][3] Movie serial Kane is a "super-racketeer" who became the supreme dictator of Earth with the help of his criminal army. Although the events of the serial transpire in the year 2440, Kane has apparently ruled the world for some time before that. He was portrayed by actor Anthony Warde. On the 1979 television series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Kane is reimagined as a defector from Earth to the Draconian Realm, a powerful empire said to have conquered three quarters of the known universe. Known simply as "Kane" in this version, he is the supreme commander of the Draconian forces under Emperor Draco. While the original Killer Kane was the absolute leader, on the television series, Kane answers to Draco and (grudgingly) his daughter Princess Ardala, who acts as Draco's emissary (although Princess Ardala did not appear in the 1939 serial). In this version, Ardala is a Princess (which she was not in the original comic strips) who also commands Kane (in the comics, it was Ardala who was Kane's subordinate).[3]  Back to me:

656. Zorro's Fighting Legion review 01-04!

This is a great serial, and sadly, it will probably never get the presentation it truly deserves, being so old and all.

HOTW- Rocketman, aka Commando Cody

From Wiki- Radar Men from the Moon is a 1952 Republic Pictures' 12-chapter movie serial, the first Commando Cody serial starring newcomer George Wallace as Cody, Aline Towne as his sidekick Joan Gilbert, and serial veteran Roy Barcroft as the evil Retik, the Ruler of the Moon.[2] The director was Fred C. Brannon, with a screenplay by Ronald Davidson, and special effects by the Lydecker brothers. This serial recycles the flying sequences from Republic's earlier 1949 serial King of the Rocket Men. It was later released by Republic in 1966 as the 100-minute television film Retik the Moon Menace.  And now back to me:

Captain America 1944 serial

From Wiki- The serial sees Captain America, really District Attorney Grant Gardner, trying to thwart the plans of the Scarab, really museum curator Dr. Cyrus Maldor—especially regarding his attempts to acquire the "Dynamic Vibrator" and "Electronic Firebolt", devices that could be used as super-weapons.[2]  In a rare plot element for Republic, the secret identity of the villain is known to the audience from the beginning, if not to the characters in the serial. The studio's usual approach was the use of a mystery villain who was unmasked as one of the other supporting characters only in the final chapter. Back to me:

Robot MOTW- Creeper robot

Dr. Zorka invents an eight foot slave robot to do his evil bidding.  It roams through 12 chapters of The Phantom Creeps way back in 1939.  It hulks about doing the bad doctor's bidding, until it gets destroyed.  Dr. Zorka also does not fare well, but that is par for the course in serials.

Robot MOTW- The Automaton

This giant robot protects a powerful cartel.  It uses a deadly gas weapon called The Madagascar Madness.  Harry Houdini breaks the cartel up and exposes this robot as a human in disguise.  This is an early serial, and most of it has been lost to the ashes of time, but a few chapters are left for your viewing pleasure.  The robot doesn't look very threatening at all, but I am sure over a hundred years ago it was something to behold at the time,  Too bad it was just a dude in disguise.  The cartel would have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn't been for that darn Houdini!

Perils of Penelope Pitstop

This is my DVD set of The Perils of Penelope Pitstop.  It was released on May10, 2005.  I don't remember exactly when I bought the set, but it wasn't too long after that, I am sure.  I got the other two related sets all around the same time frame.  Last night I finally opened the set to watch the show.  I mean, I removed the actual plastic wrap from the set.  I can't believe I have had this at least 15 years without ever watching it.  I remember thinking I should watch this.  I had opened Dastardly and Muttley almost immediately.  That is the show I saw the most when growing up.  I watched all of Wacky Races last year, and finally got to this show.  It sure is in great shape now, I'll tell you what.

The Green Hornet

Boy I went through quite a serial phase back in the old Xenorama board days.  Kinda miss that place a bit, but save for a few, message boards have died out (no real surprise, since everyone and their brother had one for a while.  Still, it's kind of fun to go back there and see what I was watching six or more years ago.  Kind of like a time machine, if you will.  I post there occasionally so someone thinks people stop by, but I can't recall the last time anyone posted anything new.   Here's the link to the serial.  All the chapters are reviewed there, along with commentary from me and others.

Action Scenes from Pulp Serial THE SPIDER'S WEB (1938)

I'm halfway through watching this fun serial, and as I reviewed it earlier in a previous life, it's action packed and filled with bullet ridden bodies, both from The Spider and his antagonist, the Octopus. It made for one popular serial that year, but busybodies complained and the sequel was toned down.
