                 It is a fun movie, but a tidge too repetitive for it's own good.  Just take out a bit of the schtick and it would go a lot faster.

The Robonic Stooges (1977)

 

From Wiki- Moe, Larry and Curly are junkyard-based superheroes who fight crime with their often malfunctioning bionic powers and are given assignments via film projector from their frustrated boss Agent 000 (pronounced "oh-oh-oh") who runs the Superhero Employment Agency.  Since all of the original Three Stooges had died when production began (Moe Howard and Larry Fine had both died in 1975, Shemp Howard died in 1955 and Curly Howard died in 1952), other voice actors were used to impersonate them, mostly veteran voice actors from other Hanna-Barbera productions.^[6] Paul Winchell voiced Moe, Joe Baker voiced Larry, and Frank Welker voiced Curly (Welker had previously used his Curly impression for the titular character in Jabberjaw). Unlike cartoon series produced by Hanna-Barbera in the 1970s, The Robonic Stooges did not contain a laugh track.  Me again:

Xenorama #36 the Mark of Xorro!

 

Here is the cover for the next issue, which is under review at Amazon, but I don't think there will be any problems with it.  It should be on sale soon!  It features a lot of Zorro movies, plus some great reviews about some other adventure movies to fill out the issue.  It isn't often you can find Godzilla, Zorro, the Three Stooges and the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh all in the same issue!  There are all the more well known Zorro movies and shows, plus a few of the lesser known ones.  Some of the movies are better than others, I'll tell you what.  When I started this issue, about two years ago Amazon had a lot of strange masked rider movies available to view, so I watched them back then.

The Lost Films Fanzine #7

John LeMay is a workhorse.  He publishes all these great fanziness and writes amazing books at the same time.  These issues are so much fun, and have some much interesting facts in them you can read them at least twice and learn something new.  This issue has some great stuff about a Tarzan movie that was never made- The Jewels of Opar.  This could have been an interesting movie, but was quashed legally before shooting completed.  There is an informative article about one of the many sequels to The Big Boss that has been semi-lost to the hands of time.  I loved the article about the Stooges.  They boys were already in syndication via their shorts, so a television show would have been a natural.  However, Father Time was catching up with them which made it more problematic.  

Sven- Tarantula (1955)

 

"A tarantula!"  Sven used the clip from Disorder in the Court where Larry fights a toupee, and wins!  This movie was one I saw several times growing up, so I am quite familiar with it.  It's interesting that Sven showed Earth vs the Spider two weeks ago.  This is the better movie, but the awesome arachnid here does not get to a town at all.  It just eats a lot of cattle and some people.  At least in the former movie the spectacular spider goes through a town for a bit of a rampage.  Like I said, this is the better film, overall- the acting, directing and effects are all good, and the makeup for the acromegaly are pretty scary.  It helps that it is not true acromegaly, since it is chemically induced.

The Female Stooge

 

That is Christine McIntyre, who starred in over 20 shorts with the boys, mostly with the Shemp and Joe Besser iterations of the team.  She had charm and charisma, and could hold her own with all the Stooges.  She also had an amazing voice which she showed off first in Micro-Phonies (1945), towards the end of Curly's run.  She was such a great performer she has been the unofficial female stooge for some time.

Since it's a holiday, Memorial Day, what do we do around here? Present a Three Stooges clip that's got something to do with it! The Boys always did their best to do the right thing, even if it wasn't quite up to snuff. This clip is from 1940's "Boobs in Arms" which was obviously shot well before we were actively involved in WWII.

Happy Boithday, Curly!

Time for another break from #31daysofscares and what better reason than to celebrate the birthday of man's favorite stooge, Jerome "Curly" Howard, he of the famous shuffle and laugh.  Truly one of a kind and a comedic genius, he along with his cohorts changed comedy forever.  They always made fun of the upper class, never having to "punch down" to be funny at all.

The Three Stooges (Niagara Falls Skit)

One of my favorite skits that the boys do, mostly because it's fun to say "Niagara Falls!" and see if anyone else goes into the whole "slowly I turned..." I did this tonight at derby practice and alas, the girl I said it to didn't know what I was talking about. So here it is, in all it's black and white glory.

The Three Stooges - Santa Claus in Arabia

What better way to celebrate Xmas than with the boys all dressed as Santa Claus? It doesn't get much better than this, I'll tell you what! These are a few scenes from "Wee Wee Monsieur" (1938), one I have no huge recollection of seeing at the moment, though I must have seen it sometime in the past. It's on the sets, right?

The Three Stooges- Disorder in the Court (1936)

this is my favorite Three Stooges short. it's also the very first one I ever saw. we didn't get a package of them to watch in syndication in Colorado, or I never noticed it. I suspect the former, since I did see Laurel and Hardy a lot. naturally I saw it on WDCA Channel 20 in WV.

the song is funny, but I gotta say I prefer this version to the original, since her version is rather squeaky. you sure can hear Larry singing a lot in this one. I wonder when it was recorded?

The Three Stooges second act

OK so the last recap was misnamed.  this is the second bit, where the boys are out to save the orphanage by raising money.  they will work for $830,000, not a bad deal at all!  naturally they get caught up in a scheme to kill this woman's husband and of course it's not what it seems.

in a round about way, actually. gotta love "old time" talk and muzzle loaders. which probably fired exactly like these did most of the time anyway. usually everyone posts the clip from "An Ache in Every Stake" which is funny, but overused. so I chose this today, to honor this tradition.

Three Stooges part the second

gosh these pictures are big!  anyway, the first third of the movie establishes our heroes characters (really, was this necessary? who doesn't know who and what the Stooges are?) and shows them as kids.  the kids do a decent job acting, but I think they should have given Larry a Fine head of hair, and have him be proud of it.  that would have made the grown up Larry's hair funnier.

The Three Stooges (2012)

going to watch this movie before too long.  I'm no real fan of the Farrelly brothers.  their movies can have funny parts, but gross out humor is something I just don't care for at all.  I don't think this one has that much of it, which will be a good thing.  just from the beginning I may wish I had seen this in the theater after all.
