Darby O'Gill and the Little People

Disney movies can be scary. Really scary. I have a friend who says Bambi was her first horror movie and I can believe that. See a film at the right age and no matter the story it can be terrifying. This movie scared me a lot when I saw it on a re-release in the 70s. This was in Keyser, WV (when they had a movie theater) and it was a full house.

The movie is innocuous enough overall, since it's pretty lighthearted for the most part. Until the end when the banshees show up. The it turns dark and stormy and super scary. At that time I had no idea what was going on, but I knew those ghastly, ghostly women were bad news. It did make sense when I watched it years later, but I still don't want to see a banshee.
