The screenplay was written by Dillon, Peace, and DeBello. The film spoofs B movies and was made on a budget of less than $100,000. The story involves tomatoes becoming sentient by unknown means and revolting against humanity.
Critical reception of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was mostly negative. The box office success of the film led to three sequels, all co-written by the same three writers and directed by DeBello. Back to me:
I saw this in the early 80s, when it was called a bad movie badly made. Somehow critics missed the parodies in the movie. It was supposed to look like that. The jokes are pretty hit and miss, but a lot of them are pretty funny. So I like the movie. I have never seen any of the sequels, but I also enjoyed the few episodes of the cartoon series as well. Four movies and a cartoon series is quite a franchise for a "bad" movie.
Next: Godzilla, King of the Monsters! Now, have I reviewed this before?
