732. The FINAL Movie Monsters... Fantastic #4!

That'll do, donkey, that'll do.  Too bad the Atlas/Seaboard lineup didn't last.  It sure had potential.

Hero of the Week- Maciste

From Wiki- Maciste (Italian pronunciation: [maˈtʃiste]) is one of the oldest recurring characters of cinema, created by Gabriele d'Annunzio and Giovanni Pastrone. He is featured throughout the history of the cinema of Italy from the 1910s to the mid-1960s.

He is usually depicted as a Hercules-like figure, utilizing his massive strength to achieve heroic feats that ordinary men cannot. Many of the 1960s Italian movies featuring Maciste were retitled in other countries, substituting more popular names in the titles (such as Hercules, Goliath or Samson). Back to me:

The Hellflowers - Merry Christmas (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight) Ramones cover

This should have been posted yesterday, but things happened, like usual.  Still, it fits today as well.

731. Mr. Magoo's terrifying Christmas Carol! 1962

This is probably my favorite version of the book... NOW.  I had not seen it in well over forty years, I bet.

Calvin and Hobbes 02-06-1986

This one made me laugh so hard the first time I read it.  The look on Calvin's face when he saw the giant snowball would have been great to see.

729. Jason and those thievin' Argonauts! 1963

Another of Ray Harryhausen's classic movies gets reviewed here.  It has a couple flaws in it, though nothing that ruins the movie.

Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol (1962)

From Wiki- Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol is a 1962 animated musical holiday television special produced by UPA.[1] It is an adaptation of Charles Dickens' 1843 novella A Christmas Carol, and it features UPA's character Mr. Magoo as Ebenezer Scrooge. The special first aired on December 18, 1962, on NBC and was the first animated Christmas special to be produced specifically for television.[2][3]  Jim Backus provides the voice of Magoo, with additional voices provided by Paul Frees, Morey Amsterdam, Joan Gardner, and Jack Cassidy.[4] The special is directed by Abe Levitow and features songs composed by Jule Styne, with lyrics by Bob Merrill, while Walter Scharf arranged and conducted the orchestral score.[5]  Back to me:

728. Ultraman Great and the Alien Invasion from 1992!

Had to switch things up a bit, since the originally scheduled movie wasn't ready to go today.  We played the Uno Reverse card.

Jason & The Argonauts (1963) Trailer (1080p)

Here's hoping this will stay up, rather than the one I put up some twelve and a half years ago.

727. Charlie Brown and the Grinch, together again for the first time!

Here I review two classic holiday specials.  We loved watching them every year, since it was a special event!

726. Kikaida, the one-armed android! 29-32

You better believe I will use the octopus label when I can!  Even if this one is eville!

The Code of Doc Savage

I am watching a fan edit of the 1975 Doc Savage movie, which tries to curtail some of the sillier things in the movie.  I probably would have loved the movie had I seen it at age ten, in 1975.

725. Once again, Movie Monsters #3, April 1975!

Here we have an improved view of Movie Monsters #3!  It had a rather large impact on me from 50 years ago.  Who knew?

HOTW- Buck Rogers (and RIP Gil Gerard)

From Wiki-  The first three frames of the series set the scene for Buck's "leap" 500 years into Earth's future:

I was 20 years old when they stopped the world war and mustered me out of the air service. I got a job surveying the lower levels of an abandoned mine near Pittsburgh, in which the atmosphere had a peculiar pungent tang and the crumbling rock glowed strangely. I was examining it when suddenly the roof behind me caved in and…

Buck is rendered unconscious, and a strange gas preserves him in a suspended animation or coma state. He awakens and emerges from the mine in 2429 AD, in the midst of another war.[6]

After rescuing future freedom fighter Wilma Deering from attackers armed with anti-gravity belts and rocket guns, he proves his identity by showing her his American Legion button. She then explains how the Red Mongols emerged from the Gobi desert to conquer Asia and Europe and then attacked America starting with that "big idol holding a torch" (the Statue of Liberty). Back to me:

724. We Want our Mummy's Tomb!

A short movie gets an extra surprise, though it is in the title card!  Go ahead, watch and find out!

Zombina and the Skeletones - Nobody Likes You (When You're Dead)

723. Superman Assimilated? 04-06

Some fun episodes from a fun, if not quite great, show!  It sure looks great, though!

RIP Rob and Michele Reiner

The very sad new about Rob and Michele keeps getting sadder.  His movies, the ones I have seen, anyway, were always enjoyable and he seems to have been a stand up man.

Calvin and Hobbes Monday 02-05-1986

Never argue with Mom when you are six years old.  I wonder how long she kept Calvin out in the snow that night.

722. The Magnificent Battle Beyond the Stars review!

Yeah, I saw it in the theater, and still enjoy it now.  Sure, John-boy is no Luke Skywalker, but he does a great job.

Battle Beyond the Stars is the movie review today, and I forgot how much I enjoyed this on first viewing and the other times I have watched it.

Yet again, Atlantis tries to use malignant means to stay alive, and they of course pay the price.

HOTW- Deathlok (I guess?)

From Wiki- Colonel Luther Manning is an American soldier from Detroit, Michigan, who, after being fatally injured, is reanimated as a cyborg by Simon Ryker in a post-apocalyptic future. He verbally communicates with his symbiotic computer, to which he refers as the abbreviated "'Puter".[8] He escapes from Ryker's control,[9] although he dreams he has regained his humanity.[10] He battles the evil corporate and military regimes that have taken over the US, while simultaneously struggling not to lose his humanity. He battles Simon Ryker and the first Warwolf, and he encounters his wife and son for the first time after becoming a cyborg.[11] He battles Simon Ryker's Super-Tank,[12] and then begins a hunt for a "cyborg doctor".[13] He battles Simon Ryker as the Savior Machine, and his mind is ultimately transferred into a Luther Manning clone.[14] He battles mutants alongside a time-traveling Spider-Man.[15] He begins working for the CIA, encounters Godwulf for the first time, and is then finally sent back in time to the modern era.[16] Back to me:

717. The Mummy's Hand reaches out! 1940 review

I enjoyed this movie as a kid, and even more as an adult.  It isn't nearly as atmospheric as Karloff's was, but it is fun.

Sophie Grey. & Trevor Horn “Video Killed the Radio Star” Live at O2 Foru...

I have no idea who Sophie is, but she's very theatrical.  Nice voice.

716. Superman 1988 episodes 01-03! yes, a review~

This is a pretty decent Saturday morning adaptation of Superman, but alas, it just didn't have enough action.

Calvin and Hobbes Monday 02-04-1986

I was pretty fortunate, my sainted mother would generally take us to any movie we asked about, though I am quite sure she did a bit of research about them.

715. Godzilla and Ichiro's Revenge! 1970

Here is the tenth Godzilla, which is one of my favorites.  Long time readers will not be surprised to hear this.

714. Hercules Against the Moon Men review! 1964

This is a fun peplum, with a lot of action and adventure.  Somehow this did not get set to publish properly.

Tiny kitten is hungry!

This is Hex, obviously starving to death early in the morning.  She's just seven months old, so still a growing kitten.

711. A fond look at Movie Monsters #1 (1974)

Hero of the Week- Platinum

From DC Fandom.com- Platinum is a liquid metal robot made of platinum with almost limitless shape shifting abilities. She was designed by Dr. William Magnus a brilliant robotic expert along with along with five other robots: Gold, Mercury, Iron, Tin, and Lead. These robots were known as the Metal Men.  Platinum was often referred to as "Tina" and was infatuated with Dr. Magnus, who never reciprocated her affections. Dr. Magnus tells her she has a faulty Responsometer which he believes makes her act like a real human woman. Her personality is very fiery and tempestuous and she gets very jealous whenever Doc has a date and will happily try to split them up and get his attention back to her. She has a personality clash with Mercury, the other hot head of the Metal Men. Back to me:

710. The Saga of Viking Women and a Sea Serpent! 1958

This is a movie I think I would have enjoyed back in the pre-video days.  It is a fun adventure movie, and has a sea serpent in it!

Unit 3 & Venus Pajama Party

Yet another song I have never heard before.  Lots of B-52's vibes, but also different enough.

709. Series Finale: The Savage Dragon 25-26!

I like the series, but probably won't watch it again, since once is enough.  Could have been better, sure.

Calvin and Hobbes Monday - 02-03-1986

I'm with Calvin, and bushels, pecks, etc, just are confusing.  Weights and measures should be uniform.

708. Takin' a Dive with The Warlords of Atlantis! (1978 review)

This movie works really well overall.  It is very pulpy, yet very original, at least as far as movies go.
