Well, I had planned on reviewing The Creature from the Black Lagoon today on the podcast, but since next week Sven is airing Monster Zero, I figured I had better review this fine film today, and do the Creatch on Tuesday.  I have written about the movie a lot here, so I will not do that for this post.  It is a fine movie, and I think I like it a bit more than Monster Zero, but only because I have seen it longer.

(from Wiki now) Rodan was revived in 1993's Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, this time portrayed entirely via a wire-manipulated marionette^[9] and hand puppets. Having received criticism for his emphasis on battle sequences relying heavily on beam weapons, special effects artist Koichi Kawakita sought to make the confrontation between Godzilla and Rodan as physical as possible.

Facts and Figures of Japanese Monster

Constantine Furman has done it again.  This book contains so much information about these movies and monsters.  It is over 300 pages of greatness.  This information covers various titles of movies, along with translations of the titles.  There are also so many lyrics from the various song in these movies.  The reader gets them in Japanese (with English words) and then the English translations.  Now you can sing along in either language to Miyarabi's Prayer.  It is also peppered with Furman's sense of fun.  His commentary is witty and very on point.  He knows when to add a little fun at exactly the right time.

                   This is a fun redub of the rather poor quality original double feature.  Man, I wish I had been old enough to see these movies at the same time.  Dang, I would have been one happy kid.

Look at this amazing cover.  It's exactly what I wanted for this homage/tribute  to the most influential Famous Monsters issue in my life, #114.  It's got great new articles about all the great Japanese movies from the original zine, and many more!  Movies like the Majin trilogy, Destroy All Planets, you name it, it's probably in there.  It was fun to re-read the issue again, which I hadn't done in quite some time, as it's about to disintegrate.

Monster Zero - Trailer

I wish I had seen this trailer when it originally aired in my area- I had no idea it was a Godzilla movie and figured I could take a chance on not seeing it then. I learned the next day at school I had made a large error, since all my friends were talking about it. I think I had to wait at least a year before it aired on Channel 2 again.

Destroy All Monsters

Normally I do this one ON Hallowe'en, but since I'm watching the movie right now on an amazing looking blu ray DVD (it's the rare one commentary, yes, it's just a little bit superior) so of course I'm watching the AIP dub. I sure wish I had seen this as a kid in the theater, but this much awesome would have probably destroyed my mind at that time.

I know I've written about this movie and trailer before, but like I said we are pretending those don't exist at the moment. This was the first Godzilla movie I ever owned, in 8mm form. It was also the first Rodan and Mothra movie I ever saw, so it has that going for it as well. It's one of my favorite Godzilla movies.

I've posted this trailer before, but it's gone now, so here it is again. I've had the great fortune to see this great movie on the big screen, and seeing it on any TV screen just can't compare. It's one of my favorite monster movies of all time, especially with that ending.

Godzilla vs King Shisa, Rodan and Angilas

Since the new movie officially opened today, I am showing this fun clip from the 50th anniversary Godzilla movie. This is a movie I like quite a bit, probably my favorite since 1975. Sure, it could be a lot better- less martial arts fights, longer monster fights, a less overpowering Godzilla, but it's never dull or boring. I do have an excellent fan edit which really helps. And there's a ton of monsters in cameo appearances. I've quote Mr Owari a lot, but "I like FINAL WARS, I must be destroying the fandom."
