Master of the Flying Guillotine (1976) original trailer

Since I won't be watching The Haunted Strangler on Sven again, here's the trailer for today.

523. Robot Detective 05-08: BAD is nationwide!

BAD is everywhere!

The vile villains of Robot Detective are led by yet another disembodied voice called BAD.  We don't know if it is an acronym or anything at this time, which is eight episodes in. I like the show quite a bit, and K is a great character.

522. The Best of Science Fiction Television up to 1987!

Here we have a very interesting book from the late 80s, but before Star Trek: The Next Generation began airing.

HOTW- Fantomah, Mystery Woman of the Jungle!

From Wiki- Fantomah is an American comics character, best known as one of the earliest comic-book superheroines.[1] Created by Fletcher Hanks, the character first appeared in Jungle Comics #2 (cover-dated Feb. 1940), published by Fiction House. The original Fantomah is a mysterious woman who protects the jungle with her many supernatural powers. She loved her jungle and its people and animals, and would often inflict cruel punishment on anyone who threatened any of them. When Fantomah uses her powers, her normally beautiful face turns into a blue skull (though her curly blonde hair remains unchanged).[3] The original Fantomah exhibited a large number of magical abilities, generally as required by the story's plot. Among others, she demonstrated the ability to fly,[16] transform objects into different objects,[17] levitate other objects,[17] cause humans to mutate into other forms,[18] and so on. Generally, whenever Fantomah used her powers, she would change her face from a normal human woman to a blue-skinned skull-like visage.[3] Back to me:

I sure have been in this position a time or two- especially in geometry.  Those damn "similar" rules were horrible to me!

519. Hammer presents The scariest Mummy in 1959!

This is a really well done movie, and a perfect length.  It is also really well directed, and the cast is great.

HOTW- The Wizard (MLJ)

From Wiki- The Wizard is a superhero created by Will Harr and Edd Ashe Jr. for MLJ Comics, which later became Archie Comics. He first appeared in Top-Notch Comics #1 in December 1939, and was one of the headliners of that title until its cancellation in 1944.[1] He was one of the earliest superhero characters to appear after the debut of Superman in 1938. Blane Whitney, a highly intelligent man, descends from a long line of men who fought for America in its wars. This includes General Steven Whitney, who was General Washington's chief aide in the Revolutionary War. It was later retroactively revealed that Blane was not the first Whitney to defend his country wearing the red mask and cloak of the Wizard during key events in early U.S. history.[2] At age 14, Blane met President Woodrow Wilson, who told him to use his brain only for good and not for evil. While in college, he was a superb athlete and student. His brother, Grover, was chief of the Naval Intelligence Service and usually informed him of enemy plots against America.[3] To aid him in his fight against these enemies, the Wizard had various contraptions and machines of his own design available to him, like a vibra-ray gun and a car that could reach up to 500 mph. He had several devices that enabled him to fly. Coming from a wealthy family, he also had airplanes and submarines at his disposal.[4][5] Back to me:

This is a cool cover, though it sure looks like the one shot comic book cover.  Action-packed!

510. Shin Kamen Rider (2023) is nothing new, really...

I really wanted to like this one more than I did, though I sure don't hate it.

Xenorama #75 is go!

After a bit of a break, we are back with the newest issue of Xenorama!  Issue 75 will feature many kaiju movies that AIP released to television (and one they released to the movie theaters)!  We cover movies from Attack of the Mushroom People to Yongary, Monster from the DeepThere is a lot in between there as well, science fiction, friendly aliens, deadly ninja, and deadly space amoebas. AIP should be thanked for bringing such a wide variety of movies and shows over here- not just Japanese ones, but British and Italian movies as well!  Not to mention all the cool cartoons!  Sure, not every movie was a winner, but they were almost always worth a look at least once.  When you saw the AIP logo, you knew you were in for an interesting time!

509. The Phantom Tollbooth of 1970!

This is a great movie, which had quite the impact on me as a young agent.  I love the book as well!

The Phantom Tollbooth (1970) Official Trailer

This will be the first episode for 7 Song Friday, Musical movies and such!  I have both the movie and the book.

509. The Green Hornet 24-26, a Deadly Invasion from Space!

What a way to end the series, on a sci-fi note.  Sorta!  More episodes should have broken away from the standard Green Hornet formula.

The Dirty Pair

From Wiki- Dirty Pair (Japanese: ダーティペア, Hepburn: Dāti Pea) is a series of Japanese light novels (the first one being a fix-up) written by Haruka Takachiho and illustrated by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko that was later adapted into anime and manga versions. The first stories that make up the first volume were first published on the S-F Magazine. The franchise has been published in multiple formats, and adapted into various other media, resulting in eight novels and several shorter stories, a television series, two OVA series, two OVA features, a feature film, a number of graphic novels, and two short Japanese radio series. The stories take place in the years 2138–2143, by which time humanity has spread across some few thousand star systems. A corporation called the World Welfare Works Association (WWWA or 3WA) helps member systems of the United Galactica (UG) federation deal with various planetary-scale problems, for profit, by sending agents called "trouble consultants". The series focuses on a team of trouble consultants in that section, named Kei and Yuri, who have a reputation for leaving a trail of destruction behind them, for which they are known publicly as the "Dirty Pair", a nickname they hate. Back to me:

508. Turok and the Deathless Honker!

This was one of the first comic books I ever chose to purchase, and actually understood the story.  Granted, it isn't a layered plot.

HOTW- Sargon the Sorcerer

From Wiki- Sargon debuted in All-American Comics #26, with a publication date of May 1941. He was a stage magician, dressed like a swami complete with turban, to disguise the fact that he wielded true mystic powers, passing off such feats as illusions. As a child, he came into possession of the mystic Ruby of Life which allowed him to control anything he touches (touching the ground lets him erect a wall, for instance).[3]

Taking his professional name from the ancient king of the same name, Sargon has had a checkered career, acting mostly as a hero during the Golden Age aided first by his lady assistant Flora Styles, and later by his cartoonish fat little comic relief sidekick / manager Maximillian O'Leary as he battled crooks, spies and his azure-skinned archenemy the Blue Lama, the Queen of black magic.[4]

507. Jonny's Golden-ish Quest in 1993!

In which X7 reviews the first Jonny Quest feature film, Jonny's Golden Quest (1993). It is a pretty good movie, but there are just a few things that it is completely wrong about.

This is a blistering cover of a Bob Dylan song.  I finally listened to the original about a year ago, it is twice as long.

506. Valley of the Dinosaurs 09-12, Fire and Meteors!

Four more episodes that continue to impress me.  What a great show.  Had it been on the previous year, it would have been huge.

This is a fun adaptation of the book, and I have come to appreciate it a lot more now than I did some forty years ago when I first saw it.

504. Charlie has nothing on these Deadly Angels! (1977)

This movie sure could have been better.  I sure wish it had!

The Deadly Angels (1977)

Some movie trailers are better than the actual movie.  This is one of them.  GoodTimes had the trailer on one of their compilations, and it looks like a kung fu Charlie's Angels.  It sort of is, but alas, it is also far sleazier than the show.

503. 7 Movie Song Friday, a new feature!

Here is the introduction to a new once-a-month feature about music in movies, whether it is actual musicals, documentaries or the coming of age movies that feature youthful rebellion.

HOTW- Ibis The Invincible

From Wiki- Prince Amentep of Egypt was an acolyte of Thoth and next Pharaoh in line who fell in love with princess Taia of Thebes. Originally, Amentep travels to 1940 when Taia is poisoned and he places her and himself in suspended animation to heal, a process that took 4,000 years. He uses his mystic abilities in the modern era to battle evil.[6][7][8] Ibis also once temporarily served as the guardian of the Rock of Eternity in place of ally and friend, the Wizard Shazam.[1]  The original Ibis first appeared in Whiz Comics #2 (February 1940), and was created by Bob Kingett.[4] When superheroes declined in popularity in the early 1950s, Ibis and the other Fawcett characters ceased publication. One Ibis story shortly thereafter was reprinted by Charlton Comics.[5] The Fawcett characters were later licensed and eventually bought outright by DC Comics in the 1970s.

500. Godzilla vs Ebirah, the Sea Monster!

This is it- episode 500!  It is mostly intact, but YouTube made me remove some of the video elements.  Probably mostly for the music.

497. Chang Cheh's Masked Avengers Disassembled!

This is a bloody good movie,  but it is not in my top ten Shaws or Chang Cheh movies.  You gotta pay attention!

Masked Avengers (1981)

This title had me thinking it was going to be about good guys being masked, but alas, it was not.  They were the bad guys.  I liked it OK, but it was not high on my list.  I have seen it a few more times and like it more, but it is not one of my top ten favorite Shaw movies.  There is betrayal, violence, a traitor or two, and lots of action.  There are a few too many characters as well.

496. 7 Smithereens Songs Friday 05-02-2025

This was a lot of fun.  I talked a bit longer than I thought I would, big surprise!

Xenorama Podcast episode 500

It seems like we used to be able to put a poll in the ol' blog spot way back when.  It appears to have disappeared like these old Zenith television sets and clickers have.  I was going to solicit ideas for the 500 episode.  Alas.  I was thinking about reviewing Yog, Monster from Space, or the X From Outer Space, or some movie that I saw via AIP or AI-TV back in the day.  On television of course.  I love both of those movies, and they have achieved a certain amount of fame in some fan circles these days.  Especially YOG, oddly enough.  But I am still not sure.  The 500th episode will be next Tuesday, which is nicely enough, perfection since that is an "open" day on the podcast.

494. A Visit to the Morrison Natural History Museum!

Here we have my most recent visit to a place I have never been before!  It was great.
