Villain of the Week- Dr. Who

This is from the Doctor Who wiki- Dr. Who, also known as Dr. Hu (not), is the main antagonist in the 1966 American/Japanese animated TV series The King Kong Show, and its 1967 Japanese film adaptation King Kong Escapes. He is a mad scientist who desires to capture King Kong for his own evil schemes.

          Here we have a very interesting book from the late 80s, but before Star Trek: The Next Generation began airing.

Thor: Dark World (2013)

 

I enjoyed this more than the last time I watched it, some eight years ago.  With the rest of the movies in hindsight, some parts of this are far more impactful than they were.  Of course, watching Loki get "killed" again is still ridiculous.  The end of the movie subplot was wrapped up in a hurry in the next movie, and was probably not where they were going to go.   Natalie Portman was better in this movie, but now, almost ten years later we haven't seen her since.  And then there is Frigga... Rene Russo is just great, so knowing Endgame it's even more poignant.  Also a plus is the plot lines all are tied together, rather than meandering all over the place.

WandaVision 7- Breaking the Fourth Wall

 

IN which we join the lame "reality TV" of having characters talk to an interviewer while the episode is going on.  This of course is done really well, as both the Vision and Wanda start to figure things out.  Monica has now gained her Photon powers, even if she is unaware of it.  Dr Darcy is wonderful, and she and Agent Woo could have their own series.  She fills the Vision in on what happened to him with Thanos, and we get to hear flashbacks from some of the movies.  Then we get a new reveal of who Agnes actually is...

The Three Doctors (1973)

after watching Sarah Jane Smith appear with the tenth Doctor, I wanted to watch some of the original Doctors.

and here's an serial that I can see all three of the original Doctors in.  it's probably the best one of the three that have been done so far, though the stories in all of them are mostly just used to get the Doctors to meet themselves.  and with only three of them here, it is a lot easier than with five.  and the Two Doctors is fun, but not enough interaction between the Doctors.

Dalekmania (1995)

this is a nifty little doc about the two movies that Peter Cushing made in the 60s.  it doesn't really talk about actual "Dalekmania"- like how it got started and that.  in fact, the television series is barely mentioned, though one of the writers or producers does talk a bit about the differences between Hartnell's Doctor and Cushing's Dr. Who (which is his surname in the movie).

the doc talks to Roberta Tovey who played Susan in the movies and then to a couple of the other players.  they are all very fun to watch and listen to.

Dalek creator Terry Nation shows up as well, in archival form, and talks about the differences as well.  this used to be available on some VHS set, but appears to be OOP at the moment.  I saw it on Netflix.

Peter Cushing's Doctor is far too nice. enjoyable movies, but overall these are fun movies. there's a reason for this trailer...

I Need a (third) Doctor!

I was not expecting this song with this choice of video. these days Pertwee is a near tie with Baker as my favorite Doctor. I was going to use "Doctoring The Tardis" but all of them almost always featured the newer Doctors.

the Two Doctors (1985)

The Two Doctors is a really good Doctor Who serial.  the second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) and the sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) cross paths and end up stopping the Sontarans and some Androgums from getting the key to time travel.

I love these team ups, and it's probably a good thing they are rare, since doing it all the time would take the specialness out of it.

I don't know much about the sixth Doctor, as I've only seen a few of his adventures, but I am looking forward to more of them.  because they were the only two Doctors present, and only had one companion each (Peri and Jamie McCrimmon) we get more time with them than the other two multi-Doctor shows. and the wordplay of the Sixth Doctor was really good, mixing personal pronouns and all.

however, how come the sixth Doctor didn't remember this meeting?  does regeneration leave your memory swiss cheesed?

Dr. Who #11: The Rescue

in the 11th story the Doctor and his now two companions end up on the planet Dido in the 25th century.

there they find two humans and a monster called Koquillion.  however, something seems amiss, all things considered.

this 2 part serial brings Vicki into the series, as a replacement for Susan Foreman.  she's a capable replacement, and a good idea to use someone from five centuries into the future, as she could grasp concepts much easier than Ian Chesterton or Barbara Wright. nice contrast to Susan, as well.

Koquillion is a pretty cool suit, as is the Sand Beast.  it's a nice little serial, and the Doctor does miss Susan.  released on DVD last year.  I'm impressed at how nice these serials look.  the commentary tracks are good, but the text commentary is really fun.
