Deadpool and Wolverine 2024

I just started watching this movie last night.  I have not watched the first two, since I am not much a of a Deadpool fan.

Here is the Holy Grail that I had in the mid-70s!  Somehow it never showed up in the local stores.

Villain of the Week- The Grim Reaper

From Wiki- Eric Williams debuted in The Avengers #52 May (1968), created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema.^[8] He appeared in the 1982 Vision and the Scarlet Witch series,^[9] and the 1985 Web of Spider-Man series. 

Eric Williams, the brother of Simon Williams, was born in Paterson, New Jersey. He was constantly neglected by his parents, who gave all of their attention to Simon and failed to curb his violent tendencies. Eric eventually becomes a thief and member of the Maggia and moves to Las Vegas, while Simon takes over the family business, Williams Innovations.

After his company is faced with bankruptcy, partly due to competition with Stark Industries, Simon works with Eric and Heinrich Zemo to get revenge and is transformed into Wonder Man. Simon later sacrifices himself to save the Avengers, and Eric becomes the Grim Reaper out of grief.^[15][16]

In his next appearance, the Grim Reaper confronts the Avengers with his original Lethal Legion, composed of the Living Laser, Power Man, Man-Ape, and the Swordsman. He later learns that the Vision was implanted with Simon's brain waves and refuses to harm him, leading to his defeat.^[17]  Back to me:

Villain of the Week- Cobra

From Wiki- Cobra is the name of several characters appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

The most well-known Cobra is Klaus Voorhees, now known as the King Cobra. He first appeared in Journey into Mystery #98 (Nov. 1963) created by writer Stan Lee and artist Don Heck.^[1] Klaus Voorhees was a laboratory assistant, working with a professor trying to find a cure for various venomous snake bites. A combination of a bite from a radioactive cobra and the experimental anti-venom granted him superpowers, which led to him becoming the supervillain briefly known as the Human Cobra and then as the Cobra. The Cobra and Mister Hyde formed a criminal team for years, fighting various heroes such as Thor and Daredevil.^[2] He later became a member of the Serpent Squad and a member of Sidewinder's Serpent Society. During a takeover attempt by the Viper, the Cobra actually opposed her rule and sided with Captain America to depose the Viper and foil her plans. The Cobra later took the name "the King Cobra" as he assumed leadership of the Serpent Society. When the Serpent Society became Serpent Solutions under the leadership of the Viper (Jordan Stryke, a different Viper) the King Cobra became a member of the group. Back to me:

The Marvels (2023)

Had I known that there would be many Flerkens in The Marvels, I sure would have watched it in the theater.  That should have been the main pitch.

I did watch the movie recently, and cannot believe it has been that long since I have seen a MCU movie.  I quite liked it, overall.  Sure, there were the dropped plot points here and there, but seeing the characters again was like greeting old friends.  So I now have several newer movies to catch up on.  Which I am finally looking forward to!  Three years is a long time to go without seeing a superhero movie.  And I never once thought I would say that.

Villain of the Week- The Iguana

From Villains Wiki- Curt Connors created an Enervator to help remove the Lizard condition that was in his system and tested it on an Iguana. Unfortunately the Iguana became mutated and turned into a creature with the memories of the Lizard. The Iguana then fought Spider-Man and the Lizard until both he and the Lizard fought Spider-Man together.

I cannot believe it has been three years since I have watched a Marvel movie.  The fatigue was strong with this one.

Villain of the Week- Dr. Sivana

From Wiki-  Thaddeus Bodog Sivana is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Doctor Sivana is the archnemesis of Captain Marvel created by Bill Parker and C. C. Beck, first appearing in Whiz Comics #2 (cover-dated February 1940) by Fawcett Comics.^[1] A mad scientist and inventor bent on world domination, the character was established as Captain Marvel's main archenemy during the Golden Age, appearing in over half of the Fawcett Captain Marvel stories published between 1939 and 1953.^[2] Sivana has kept his role as one of the key archenemies of Captain Marvel (now Shazam) throughout the character's appearances in DC Comics, which eventually acquired the rights to Fawcett's superhero characters. In 2009, Doctor Sivana was ranked as IGN's 82nd-greatest comic book villain of all time.^[3][4]  Infamously evil, Doctor Sivana appeared in well over half of all of the Golden Age Captain Marvel comic stories, and in all of the first four stories, after having deduced Captain Marvel's dual identity as boy radio broadcaster Billy Batson early on. Depicted as a brilliant, if evil, scientist, Sivana used all manner of unusual inventions and techniques against the Marvels. He was at first a good man who wanted to help humanity, but big business, bosses, and other concerns blocked and checked him and even called him mad, until, embittered, he turned against humanity and moved to Venus. He somehow held high status among the beings of the planet Venus.^[5] He returned to Earth, establishing himself as a villain, and clashed with Capt. HOTW- The Scarlet Witch

From Wiki- The Scarlet Witch and her twin brother Quicksilver debuted as a part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in X-Men #4 (March 1964). They were depicted as reluctant villains, only wanting safety from persecution and uninterested in team leader Magneto's plans for global domination. The Scarlet Witch is depicted as calm and submissive, like many female comic book characters of the time.^[12] Her costume was composed of a bathing suit with straps, opera gloves, short boots, a leotard covering her body, a superhero cape, and a wimple, all of which were colored in shades of red. She was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.^[13]  Lee and Kirby also produced the Avengers comic book, composed of Marvel's most prominent solo heroes at the time. Save for Captain America, Lee and Kirby eventually had all the Avengers leave to focus on their individual careers, replacing them with former villains from other comics who did not have a series of their own: the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver from X-Men, and Hawkeye from Iron Man's adventures in Tales of Suspense. The team was known as "Cap's Kooky Quartet".^[14] Although common in later years, such a wide-scale change in the roster of a superhero group was completely unprecedented (usually, superhero teams only exchanged one or two members at a time rather than almost the entire roster at once).^[15] Lee and the following Avengers writer, Roy Thomas, hinted that other Avengers were romantically interested in the Scarlet Witch. The twins later leave the team after a crossover with the X-Men.  Back to me with a vengeance!

CBS Saturday morning 1967

 What a lineup!  And this was just on CBS!  Both ABC and NBC had a slew of super shows as well.  Had I been more than two years old, these Saturday mornings would have been both heaven and hell to me.  Too many choices to choose from, though I am pretty sure I would have at least went with Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four.  But dang, a time like this wouldn't happen again for almost 30 years.  Busybody "concerned" groups- "think of the children!"

HOTW- Blue Diamond

 

From Wiki- Elton T. Morrow is an archaeologist who finds a mysterious blue diamond on an expedition to Antarctica. The diamond is a piece of the Lifestone Tree, which powers the alien Chosen Eight of Fate. A German sub attacks Morrow's ship on the way home and Morrow is the only survivor. An explosion shattered the diamond during the battle, forcing innumerable tiny diamond particles into Morrow's body.^[6] After he is rescued by a British ship, he finds that the shards of the diamond gave him diamond-hard skin, giving him superhuman strength and nigh-invulnerability.^[7] Dubbing himself the Blue Diamond, he battles Nazi spies during World War II as part of the Crazy Sues.^[8]

What If...? vol. 1

 

Late in 1976 Marvel Comics released a different comic book- What If?  The Watcher took the readers on journeys to different worlds (the multiverse) where heroes made some slightly different choices. The Distinguished Competition used to do these stories, but they were generally dreams, hoaxes or "imaginary stories" back then.  I enjoyed them, though generally they were tame.  I quite enjoyed the Superman Blue and Superman Red story though.  However, the trope had become a joke by the 70s, to both companies.  We would see cover blurbs proclaim that what we see on the cover was "not a hoax!  not a dream!  not an imaginary story!" constantly.

Loki S 2 06 Glorious Purpose

In which Loki masters his time slipping and attempts to fix the Time Loom.  He keeps going back further and further in time, right to his first interview with Mobius.  None of these things work, so he goes to visit He That Remains.  They have an interesting conversation.  Then Loki figures it all out.  This leads to things being kind of reset, and there being a lot more timelines.  Mobius and Sophie visit his original timeline, then miss Loki.  The story continues in different movies and series now.  At least that is my guess.

Loki S2 05 Science/Fiction

In which Loki appears, and the TVA is gone, empty, not populated.  No one is there.  He leaps timeslips about time and place, and into branches, to find all his friends living other lives.  Casey is breaking out of a very famous prison, Mobius is a jetski salesman, single dad with two boys, B-5 is a doctor and OB is a quantum physicist (who should have been named Al, or Sam).  OB tells Loki he should be able to control his leaping about, but he can't.  He does reassamble the team, once OB makes a new tempad.  Then Sylvie refuses to join them, until the red skies take her branch.  Then the darkness comes for the team...
