The phase of Calvin being in the Boys Scouts, or more likely, Cub Scouts, was very short-lived. Watterson himself said it wasn't a good fit.
What with Calvin being more of a loner and all. Calvin read a lot of comic books, and unfortunately, Watterson had a very low opinion of most of them. He couldn't be a genius about everything, I reckon.
