This was a credit Ray received a few times early in his career. Someone else, one Willis Cook, got the credit for special effects in general. Harryhausen would talk about the differences he perceived between "special effects," "technical effects," and "optical effects" at times. I think he eventually accepted the sobriquet of Special Effects Master later on, but since this was early in his career, he was probably happy to be working in his chosen field back then.
I remember almost all of us fans lamenting that Ray only made sixteen feature films (counting Mighty Joe Young and Animal World) in his life. However, he couldn't have really made too many more in that allotted time span, and we may have lost some of the ones that did get made. We will never know. I am happy with his filmography.
