HOTW- Hawkman (Golden Age)

From Wiki- In the days of ancient Egypt, Prince Khufu was engaged in a feud with his rival, the Hungarian priest Hath-Set, who captured Khufu and his consort Chay-Ara, and killed them. In 1940, Khufu reincarnates as American archaeologist Carter Hall, and Chay-Ara as Shiera Sanders. He would later become a charter member of the JSA.  Carter would return to action in the 60s as well, before his Earth 1 counterpart would become a member of the JLA.  There has been a lot of retconning for all the Hawks that exist in DC Comics, and most of them have been super lame.

Justice Society World War II (2021)

Barry Allen is having a lunch date with Iris West in Metropolis.  While having a serious talk, an explosion happens.  The Flash rushes off and finds Superman in battle with Brainiac.  They decide to team up.  Brainiac loads a small missile with kryptonite and shoots it at Superman.  The Flash sees it, and runs faster than he ever has before, breaking an interdimensional barrier.  He ends up in WW 2, watching a battle between the Justice Society of America and ratzis.  Wonder Woman accosts him, but soon they realize he is not a ratzi.  Jay Garrick believes Barry is from the future.  They have to stop a plot from Atlantis from helping the ratzis conquer the US.  The adviser has tricked Aquaman into it.  Arthur brings up some undersea monsters to help.  In between all this, Barry realizes he is on a different Earth, not his own past.  Eventually, they free Aquaman from the control of the Psycho Pirate, and Barry returns to his world.

Legends of the Superheroes (1979)

 

I got this DVD exactly one year ago today.  I watched both specials last week.  Oh my...

When I saw the ad for "Challenge of the Superheroes" in the TV Guide I was really excited.  All those heroes vs all those villains.  Sure, I knew that Mordru had no business being there with most of them, but then, neither did Earth S' Captain Marvel or Dr. Sivana.  It was billed as a battle, and I was looking forward to some good fisticuffs between the "Justice League" and the Legion of Doom.  There would also be live action versions of such heroes as Green Lantern and Hawkman, and many others who had never been portrayed before.  I was really looking forward to this.

Johnny Cypher takes action!

Much like Hawkman, Johnny Cypher is handy with ancient weapons when the Zero fails him, or he wants some more exercise. He ha a choice of many weapons behind him, but he chooses an old fashioned axe.  He had to be quick thinking, since his episodes were only five minutes long.  One had to move fast in that amount of time.  Usually the Zero would suffice, but Johnny was handy with his fists as well many times.

were Katar and Shayera Hol the first married couple at the start of their series?  it's a pretty cool thing, especially back in their series.

the Hawk and the Bat

one of the things I like a lot about "The Batman" is that they used the more traditional DC heroes that I grew up with.

they've had Green Lantern, the Flash and Hawkman- Hal Jordan, Barry Allen and Katar Hol,respectively.  none of these were used,  for various reasons in the previous (and rightly much loved) JLA/U version.

especially Katar.  I know and loved their Hawkgirl and I know they wanted to use Katar in the "Invasion" saga,  but I am glad they didn't.  they did manage to incorporate Hawkman... sort of... as well as the Shadow Thief but I dunno.  it was kind of too "predestination" for me.

so seeing this Hawkman helping Batman with the real Shadow Thief is a real pleasure, as have the other heroes.  Green Arrow also appeared, but since he was still pretty much the same.

The Batman sure smiles more as well.
