I really want to like this movie more often than I do.  The action scenes are great, but...

Dragons Forever?

Well, I may have a rather interesting take on this classic Jackie-Sammo-Yuen Biao movie in the near future.

602. The Fearless Hyena is properly pumped!

                   Here is Jackie's directorial debut!  It is a wonderful movie, full of action and fight scenes.

               It isn't easy to review classic kung fu movies that many people have seen.  This is an example.

476. Snake in the Eagle's Shadow (1978) review!

               What a great movie!  It is silly at times, and even a bit dramatic, but it works.  The fights are great, with a pretty wide variety of styles.

From Wiki- Snake in the Eagle's Shadow (Chinese: 蛇形刁手) is a 1978 Hong Kong martial arts action comedy film directed by Yuen Woo-ping in his directorial debut. It stars Jackie Chan, Hwang Jang-lee, and Yuen Woo-ping's real life father, Yuen Siu-tien. The film's plot is about Chien Fu (Jackie Chan), an orphan who is bullied at a kung fu school, meeting an old beggar, Pai Cheng-tien (Yuen Siu-tien), who becomes his sifu (teacher) and trains him in Snake Kung Fu. Drunken Master Trailer

this trailer is rather funny with it's English translations. they've translated "Immortal" as "Fairy" which isn't quite right. still, the trailer gives you a rather good idea of just what you'll get in the movie, which is still one of Jackie Chan's best movies. lots of fight scenes and humor.

Three Brothers fight each other in Dragons Forever

I can only imagine what the Three Stooges would have been like had they been able to use kung fu. the carnage with all those weapons would be hilarious to watch. a three-sectional staff in Curly's hands... that's comedy gold there.

Jackie Chan Adventures, season one

four episodes in, and this is one enjoyable cartoon!  the animation is nice, and cool looking, the acting is good and the writing is excellent.

James Sie plays Jackie's animated voice, while Jackie Chan plays his live action voice.  James sounds a lot like Jackie, except more easily understood.

the plot is right out of Operation: Condor, only not as boring, and lots more fights.  these are some of the best martial arts fights I've seen animated.

Jackie is an amateur archeologist, and is also now the guardian of his nine year old niece, Jade (played by Stacie Chan).  they live with their Uncle.  he gets involved with the Dark Hand (at least in season one) and has to recover 12 medallions before they do.

I wish I had watched it on tv now!

Drunken Master (1978)

of course, this makes the previous movie look a little, well, a lot lame. this is a great movie, and still one of Jackie's best. this is the English trailer, created for international audiences. that's all Jackie and the cast doing those fight scenes.

The Big Brawl (1980)

this would have made a very good Bruce Lee movie, but as a Jackie Chan vehicle it's adequate at best. 

there are some good fights in here, and one cool one done on roller skates (Jackie was taught by one of my coaches, John Hall, who is credited in the movie but not in imDb, how does one change that?).

however, Jackie plays a Korean, who enters a big brawl to win $15,000 to send to his brother's clinic in Chicago. it's an interesting version of the "tournament" martial arts movie, but the choreographers are stuck in the 1970s a la "Enter the Dragon (1973)" and have Jackie do many similar moves, instead of his completely different style that we are so used to these days.

so the fights look a bit slow, which didn't blow US audiences away in 1980.  what I found more interesting was Jackie was given a love interest and looked good as a romantic lead.  that was very cool.

it's definitely worth a viewing, but it's pretty easy to see why it failed at the BO back then.
