Sven- The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)

Baron von Frankenstein is awaiting execution for various crimes.  He relates his story to the priest to show just how he ended up in this predicament.  His story is very familiar, but this time is in color and has lot more blood than we are used to.  He creates a new creature, and this time actually uses a brain from an elderly scientist.  He is not named Dr. Abner Mal.  Too bad the brain gets damaged in a fight before newly created body.  This will not end up well.  In the end, the monster is destroyed and Victor goes off to the guillotine.

This was Hammer's first full color feature and also their first Frankenstein movie.  They would produce six more, though one was a semi-remake of this one.  Victor is the real monster in the series, as there would be a new creature in all of the movies.

Colorado was not Hammer friendly when I was growing up.  I have no real connection to these movies.  Hammer sure made great looking movies.  I like the cast, and seeing Victor as a boy was an interesting thing.  The kid playing him looked and sounded great.  Chris Lee makes an interesting creature, closer to what Mary Shelley describes in the book.  Since the movie was a huge hit, the Baron returned.  He was dead, but he got better.

Next- The Horror of Dracula (1958)
