According to the page I get these strips from, this is the first and only time we see a Spaceman Spiff toy, a very generic saucer. Which is exactly where Calvin would get the idea. The sarcastic alien was on all of the planets I visited as well.
Because a six year old wouldn't worry about bathrooms or food or other necessities that would be required for extensive space travel!
