Bronze Age Brave and Bold v 1

 

I received this fun book as a late Xmas present.  It's chock full of stories that don't quite fit into the established DC continuity, but who cares about that?  You get to see Batman team up with a wide variety of heroes, many of which were not in the Justice League.  Which makes them more fun.  The first story is a Metal Men adventure in which Batman mentions a web slinging "Peter come lately".  It's from 1967, which seems a little late to be using that joke.  Batmania is in full swing for the first few stories, though not nearly as bad as it had been in the other books Batman was featured in.

The Siege of Starro pt 2

Remember this post from two and a half years ago?  Well, I finally got the final two DVD sets for Batman: The Brave and the Bold and season 2 part 2 starts with the two parter.    I actually don't remember seeing the JLA scene in the first episode this time, but it's in that original post for posterity.  I'm sure I just missed it, since why would they remove it?  That wouldn't make any sense at all, considering all the other homages (even Sugar and Spike make a cameo appearance in this episode, which is just great as well).  Spoilers below, in case you haven't seen the episode.

Batman & Catwoman Flirting while Fighting

man I love this show. it's funny and action packed and so well written. it takes some of the more silly Silver Age characters and makes them fun and cool. I mean, Green Arrow was lame then, and then got better, then got worse. here, he's a fun rival and friend to Batman. and the way they actually made Aquaman fun again? he's much better as Hercules than as a Prince Namor retread. yeah, the Brave and the Bold rocks.

The Flash and Batman

one of the fun things about The Brave and the Bold cartoon was that you usually got two stories- the first one a little mop up of a case, and then the main story. so you could get anywhere from 2-6 heroes in one cartoon. gotta love that that! another cool thing is they used a lot of different heroes for the show. many were ones I didn't always love in the comics, but for a half hour they were good. and of course my beloved Metal Men finally got animated. man they would have been perfect for a 60s Filmation show.

Batman : "Chill of the Night!"

in this great episode of "The Brave and the Bold" the Spectre (voiced by Mark Hamill) and the Phantom Stranger (voiced by Kevin Conroy) have a bet about what path Batman will take: the path of the grim avenger or the the path of dispenser of justice.  he's about to find out who actually killed his parents.

Batman and the Doctor

my most popular posts since I've started this blog have either been about Batman or the Doctor.  that's the Doctor as in Doctor Who.  I don't cater to any specific sub-genre, I tend to write about all sorts of things, even sports on occasion (which reminds me, I need to post something about roller derby again soon).  I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the popularity of these two topics, especially with Batman due to the inexplicably popular Nolan movies that are on display these days.

the Brave and the Bold (mostly) Rocks

With it's snazzy jazzy score and thick designs, the opening of the newest Batman cartoon will almost surely displease fans of the "dark and gritty Batman".  however, the whole "Batman is always prepared for everything" mentality that has turned the character into the Silver Age Superman these days is quite present.
