906. The astute Aztec Mummy review!

This is the first movie starring Popoca, The Aztec Mummy.  It is rather derivative of Universal's Mummy movies, just with a Mexican flair.

Dr. Caronte is the villain of three Neutron movies.   He is never seen without his mask, except once.

Curse of the Aztec Mummy

Dr. Krupp, alias The Bat, is back at it.  He wants the Aztec treasure, which is guarded by Popoca, the Aztec mummy.  Much like Kharis, he was cursed to do so.  In the previous movie, Krupp had been foiled by a Dr. Almada.  His girlfriend/fiancee Flor was a new incarnation of Xochitl, the Aztec princess that loved Popoca.  See where this is going?  Krupp is in prison, but his thugs bust him out, see?  The formerly unknown Angel shows up to help out, but nothing the humans do compares to the vengeance of Popoca, who eventually tosses Krupp into a pit of vipers.

Batwoman/Panther Women

This Blu Ray was certainly a surprise to see released.  I received it yesterday  After years of a washed out picture for La Mujer Murcielago, seeing a restored version was incredible.  VCI has somehow found a great print and restored it.  Oddly, they commissioned an English dub for the movie, and don't have the original Spanish language with English subtitles.  I am happy to say the dub is presented as straight forward as possible, and while I haven't seen the dubbing cast, it sounds like they might all be of Latino descent.  At least, I hope they are, since the accents sound legit.  I have only watched about half of the Batwoman, and it is gorgeous.  I could live without the English voiceover every time a sign in Spanish shows up.  Heck, we even hear him say "Reptilicus".

La Mano Del Destino

La Mano Del Destino (the Hand of Destiny, and shouldn't it be E: Mano?) returns to the squared circle to avenge his betrayal at the hands of his enemies and friends.  This group is led by El Jefe, who has some unknown power over most of the luchadores.  Mano is told he must defeat each wrestler individually before he can take on El Jefe.  All of this is set in Mexico in the 60s, when the wrestling was still real to many people in the country.

Xenorama #19 on the move

So far I've only got two pages of the next issue done, but I'm expecting the Prince Planet episode guide to take up quite a few pages.  So if anyone is so inclined to contribute, get your articles in now!  I've also got articles on Thunderbirds Are Go! (the movie) and La Mujer Murcielago (1968) which you can read a bit about here

Ship of Monsters (1959)

I'd seen pictures of this movie, and had the movie on VHS (in Spanish only) for several years, but never got around to watching it. due to some great fans, I got a subtitled copy and it was REALLY enjoyable! it's a weird little movie, but danged if it wasn't more fun than I would have thought. in fact, I think I need to watch it again.
