                     I love this movie, as anyone reading this blog will already know.  It is a lot of fun, and full of monsters and aliens.

566. Hey There, It's the Yogi Bear movie!

                      This is a pretty fun movie, aside from a few sappy songs.  That is true for most musicals though, right?

I am watching this movie again for the podcast episode tonight.  I saw it at the exact right age range (8-12 years old) and I loved it.  The monsters were cool, if not exactly scary, and the plot was fun.  I have become very interested in the promotional pressbook material for these movies.  These were sent out before a movie was scheduled to be shown, and then were supposed to be destroyed or returned.  This means some are quite rare.  I had some facsimile sets, and a few originals, but I am glad people are getting them online these days.

MOTW... FROM SPACE- Gezora

 

Gezora is a massive cuttlefish that lives off the waters of Selgol Island.  The natives worship it and are afraid of it, so it existed before the deadly Space Amoeba showed up and mutated it further for it's own deadly uses.  The mollusc is sent to attack the island, but is defeated and killed with fire.  I feel bad for the poor animals in this movie, as they were not really evil, just being used by a life form that was bent on taking over the world.

Big Book of Japanese Giant Monster Movies

Things have been quiet here for a while, and that's a story for the next post.  However, I have gotten two new books from John LeMay.  This is his newest book, or rather ebook, as the case may be.  It's really a lot of fun, full of great information and it's well written to boot.  It covers most of the fantastic cinema from Japan in the Showa era, and a few other Asian movies.  Nearly all of them include giant monsters, but there are a few movies he covers that don't have them in there.  I doubt anyone is going to take him to task about those movies being included in the book.

see a movie at the right age and you will love it for life. I distinctly remember seeing this trailer on TV at a young age, and seeing the poster at the local movie theater. I didn't see it for a few more years, but it sure left an impression on me. Gezora is the only monster of the three in the movie that got named. it's OK, he's really the star!
