We bid the fondest of farewells to The Young Ones, and kind of a sad goodbye as well.

HOTW- The People's Poet, (p)Rick!
From Hero Fandom Wiki-
"Hands up, who likes me?"
Rick is one of the characters in the 1980s British TV sitcom The Young Ones. He is a self-proclaimed anarchist who is studying sociology and/or domestic sciences (depending on the episode). Rick writes bad poetry, and styles himself as the "The People's Poet", believing himself to be the "spokesperson for a generation".
He was portrayed by the late Rik Mayall. Back to me:

Rick's little sister?
The Young Ones debuted on MTV in 1985, a year after it had ended on England. MTV was able to broadcast all twelve episodes once a week on Wednesday, though they must have shown it on Saturday or Sundays nights as well. That is my memory, anyway. Wiki says it was edited for content, but I don't believe that, either. I recorded all the episode in EP speed on one VHS tape, which lasted longer than I thought it would have. This is where I learned that British shows had different runs than US shows.

Cliff Richard & The Young Ones - Living Doll
"Oh Cliff! Do you feel sometimes as IF you have been pushed off a cliff! Cliff!" Now I may have posted this before, but I did search the blog and didn't see it. I love the Young Ones and am glad they did this video with Rick's hero Cliff. I never knew had big Cliff was until I saw this show.

The People's Poem! - The Young Ones
In this segment, Rick, the self styled People's Poet, is upset at a comic book Vivian is reading, even though it's RICK's comic book. I wonder which comic book it was. Yeah, that's just what nerds do, once they get over laughing at the inherent silliness that happens. There's still a bit of the 60s Batman influence showing up here.
RIP Rik Mayall
Rik Mayall, who played "The People's Poet" Rick on The Young Ones passed away today. Here's an obit with more details. He also was supposed to be Peeves the Poltergeist in the Harry Potter movies, but that apparently was not to be, which is too bad since he would have been perfect.

30 years of the Young Ones!
I think I discovered this great show in about 1985 or so, a few years after it had aired in the UK. MTV showed all 12 episodes uncut, and with no commercial interruptions at all. how about that? the channel used to rock. anyway, by that time most of the group had moved on to other things, but "Neil" showed up to be a VJ, I think. I thought today was the 30 anniversary of the show, but Wiki says it's the 9th of November. not that it really matters!
