Sven- Island of Lost Souls (1932)

A mad scientist, Dr. Moreau, creates human/animal people on his island.   A shipwreck survivor gets dropped off on the island- much to everyone's chagrin.  Then the bad doctor has an insidious idea- he will see if he can mate his greatest creation, Lota the Panther Woman, to Edward Parker.  He also can't help but brag about his work to Parker.  Later, Parker's fiancee ends up on the island, and all hell literally breaks loose.  The animal men revolt, and would kill all the humans, but settle on getting Doc Moreau first.  Lota sacrifices herself for the others and they leave the island on a small boat.

This is a memorable movie.  This was also the first time I have watched the entire film.  It is quite compact.  I want to read the book now as well.  The cast is great and the script is very effective.  The makeup is also well done for the manimals that are spotlighted.

I enjoyed Sven's talking about the movie... BUT... the movie is 70 minutes long, and there was more Sven schtick than movie.  Perhaps they should have an adjustable time frame for Sven- two hours for shorter movies, 2.5 hours for longer movies?  I dunno, but I got almost lost track of the plot of this film.

Next- Konga (ugh)
