                    Our final chapter in the Gorgo trilogy is the comic book version!  We review both a book and and issue from 1963!

               This is the best disc set of Reptilicus that will ever be made, so go get it!

Gorgo and Reptilicus

 

Thanks to John Lemay's great zine Movie Milestones #4. I found out that Reptilicus/Reptisaurus made a "blink and you will miss it" cameo in Gorgo #12 "Monsters Rendezvous".  Poor Repti only get s  named in the last panel, despite helping Gorgo and Ogra save the planet from invading Venusians.  It's too bad they didn't have an actual team up, or do a longer story.  Gorgo and Konga both had pretty respectable runs in the comics.  Had Chartlon been more aware, they could have had some more continuing characters in all of their monster books, which would have been more fun for the reader.

Movie Milestones #4

That darn John LeMay has done it again!  He's been publishing his own fanzine for a while now, and somehow I just noticed it.  Serves me write for not paying attention.  This is a companion zine to his Lost Films Fanzine. I'll be ordering those soon enough as well.  Anyway, this one is all about Gorgo, Reptilicus and... Konga.  As anyone who knows me knows I love Reptilicus, both the movie and the monster.  I also enjoy Gorgo quite a bit.  Konga... well, I have seen it once.  This issue talks about all the origins of the movies, and all the other stuff you would ever want to know about them.  It's really well laid out and looks great.  He publishes both color and black and white versions for both zines.

MOTW- Reptilicus

 

A frozen tail of an unknown prehistoric animal is found in the oil fields of Denmark.  Miraculously, the tail is alive, and when accidentally thawed grows into the monstrous Reptilicus.  It is naturally hungry and goes on a rampage in Copenhagen.  The military is reluctant to destroy it, as it's pieces could grow into even more reptilici, and that might be bad for the planet.  Eventually it is poisoned and dies.  Except for the claw that had been blown off...

Reptisaurus The Terrible

 

Who would have thought Reptilicus would inspire 9 issues of a continuing comic book?  Not me, that's for sure.  Had I known this series existed when I was younger I would have been searching them out, because, well, giant monsters.  This collection is self published, since these comic books are apparently in the public domain now.  The reprints look like exactly what they are, comic books scanned into a computer and used that way.  While I don't mind that the advertisements have been removed, a few of the pages would have been fun to read.  They do leave all the other stories in there, which are sort of surreal, but fun to read.

Gorgo, the comic

Actually, just the Ditko Gorgo comics are presented here, but it's a great collection of some of his more unknown work.  While the completist nerd in me would love all of the stories (how many more could there be, though, really) in the series, this is a pretty good representation of them.  Heck, I'd also love the Reptilicus/Reptisaurus stories as well, but that's something for another day, I reckon.

Tillicus vs Dirch Passer

I know I've posted this before, but here's a nice version of it to watch. I saw a subtitled version of it many years ago at Comic Con for a panel devoted to Reptilicus. can't even imagine that happening these days. Dirch Passer was a well known comedian in Denmark, which is why he got a completely out of place musical number for this movie.

Reptilicus!

I unashamedly love this movie. I'm not blind to it's various faults, but it is really a movie made by an entire country, and how many monster movies can actually make that claim? not many, I'll warrant.
