In 1880, Baron Sardonicus is a crazy sadist. His face is frozen in a rictus grin, even worse than the Joker's. He experiments on many people, terrorizing the village with his sadism. His newest wife tells him about her former paramour and his success with paralysis. The Baron sends for him, and then forces him to do more experiments. Finally, one of them works, and the Baron is cured. Or is he? Turns out his issue is psychosomatic, but since the Baron has tortured everyone, no one tells him. Maude and Sir Robert leave, Krull neglects to tell his master about the other news, and presumably, Sardonicus dies.

work in progress
I've been playing with MS Paint and Paint 3D recently, which has been a lot of fun. There's been some frustration that goes along with it, since I am still such a beginner and can't quite get the blending I want. But I'm getting better! This issue, which is still in the starting phase, is an homage to a very influential book. I have had this book since 1978, but as of this writing has never gotten a second edition. Much like FM #114, I decided it was up to me! I'm not gonna mention the name of the book just yet, but it's probably pretty evident.

Xenorama #21 cover
Look at this amazing cover. It's exactly what I wanted for this homage/tribute to the most influential Famous Monsters issue in my life, #114. It's got great new articles about all the great Japanese movies from the original zine, and many more! Movies like the Majin trilogy, Destroy All Planets, you name it, it's probably in there. It was fun to re-read the issue again, which I hadn't done in quite some time, as it's about to disintegrate.

FM #274 all Godzilla!
Here's a sneak peak of one of FOUR covers for the next annual all Japanese monster issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland. I am not surprised that GODZILLA VS THE THING was chosen to one of the movies depicted. I've very curious to see what the other three will be. One of my guesses is that GMK will be featured. Here's hoping they throw caution to the wind and do one with Megalon... or perhaps a cover featuring all the creatures from the 70s. That would be the one I would want, since that's probably my favorite time period of Godzilla movies.

Godzilla vs Robots and more!
it's that time of year again, the all Japanese monsters version of Famous Monsters is about to be released. this cover is an homage to Basil Gogos' cover for FM #135 (possibly the greatest Godzilla cover of all time, I must say). this one is pretty darn eye catching as well, huh?
edited by the talented August Ragone, this issue will be featuring a plethora of giant robots from the land of the rising sun. there's a reason Jet Jaguar is gracing the cover of the magazine along with the original (and best) MechaGodzilla. inside will contain even more robotic renegades and heroic automatons to thrill and chill you.

Famous Monsters #262
from my pal August (his blog here: The Good, the Bad, and Godzilla 続・夕陽の呉爾羅 is awesome) news on this ever so cool new issue of Famous Monsters:
this will be another awesome issue. order it from Captain Company now!
YOU AXED FOR IT... and you got it! Last year’s
"Colossal Kaiju Invasion" issue went over so big (it sold out before we
even got them in stock!) that we’ve listened to your pleas and have
brought the dream team back together for another run at the big boys.
From GODZILLA and GAMERA to VARAN and the latest in the SPACE BATTLESHIP
YAMATO/STARBLAZERS series, we cut right to the heart of the best in classic
Japanese Monsters and Sci-Fi. August Ragone returns as contributing
editor along with his all-star ota-krew, ready to drop knowledge in
abundance. There will only be one cover for issue 262 by the master of
giant monsters Bob Eggleton!

Famous Monsters #256
Famous Monsters of Filmland #256 is ready to be mailed to the contributors! thanks to the notice from Mr. August Ragone!
if you want to order a copy, go here and do it now! there will be lots of familiar names as contributors. yes, that is a rather shameless self-promotion, but I never thought I'd ever write for this magazine...
