Villain of the Week- Deadpool

Yeah, I know, ol' Wade Wilson is a very popular character.  And the movie Deadpool and Wolverine was quite funny.  But he wantonly kills lots of people.  In this one movie alone.  Perhaps he is not as obnoxious in the comic books.  I don't know.  The excess of the 90s in his costume says he probably is, though.

I just started watching this movie last night.  I have not watched the first two, since I am not much a of a Deadpool fan.

I am going to try to make at least this part before the jump spoiler free.  That seems like it should be easy enough, though I really wanted to use a different cover.  Maybe next week!

 Wanda confronts SWORD after they send an armed drone into her town.  She knows what is going on now, as does the Vision, at least for now.  The twins are growing like weeds.  The director of SWORD is no Nick Fury, I'll tell you what.  The nerdy woman from two of the Thor movies is here, and has been.  I just realized that is where she came from originally.  And Monica Rambeau does not want to talk about Carol Danvers Ms Marvel/Binary/War Bird Captain Marvel at all.  I'm thinking there is some resentment there for her being in space, or possibly causing her mother to get cancer.  I have informed you thusly.

X-Men: Apocalypse (2015)

This makes two movies in a row I've really liked, and even better, two X-Men movies in a row I've quite enjoyed- heck, including First Class that should really be three.  Sure, this one is a bit too padded with needless sequences that could easily be removed with no harm to plot and would pick up the pace (Colonel Stryker wasn't needed in here at all, despite the "surprise" cameo it did provide) and of course I think three code names were used and only Psylocke was called that more than twice.  And while there were no costumes for our heroes, really, that actually was OK given the storyline and how things were supposed to go.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Yes, it's been a while since I watched this movie.  Sad thing is, I didn't even remember all that much about it, other than I enjoyed it while watching it.  It didn't leave too much of a memory, other than the very end of the movie, which I'll talk about as I get to that picture.  It does make me happy to say I liked it.  Sure wish I could say I loved it, though, but that's just a general preference these days.  Everything has to be so damn dark, even "colorful friends" as Baron Stryker referred to the Avengers- there's hardly any color in them, aside from Iron Man and the Hulk. 

The Wolvie

It was pretty good.  I watched all of this "directors" cut, and it didn't drag too much.  I'm sure they could have clipped out about 10 or 15 minutes and it would have worked just fine, but this is the version I saw and I'm OK with it.

The Wolverine (2013)

I've had this ready to watch for several months, but kind of forgot it was on the HD.  This is the extended version.  Man, I miss the days when movies weren't constantly over two hours long AND that there was only one version of any given film.  How many freaking versions of BLADERUNNER are there?  And how many do we really need?  I'm sorry, it's my issue and I'll deal with it.  Anyway, after enjoying the last X-Men movie, which surprisingly didn't have Wolverine in every single shot, I thought it was time to check this film out.  I mostly enjoyed the first solo flick, even if there were no costumes or even code names for anyone.  I still don't get that, I mean, what's the point of making superhero movies if they are just dressed up as normal people?  Yes, that's another issue of mine, I'll get back on track here, I promise.

X-Men: Days of Future PastM (2014)

It's no big secret I am an old school comic book reader.  The new crop of movies have been hit or miss with me, though I have enjoyed most of the Marvel ones to an extent, and really did like the Avengers a lot.  I don't think I've enjoyed the DC movies very much recently, at least not since about 1980.  I barely remember the Batman movies and never did see the two new Superman films.  Part of the problem is I usually know what's going to happen, due to that extensive comic book history I have in my brain.

And as stated before, the "functional" costumes without masks are really a drag.  What's the point of having code names if they never get used?  Boring.  Oh, there's gonna be spoilers, after the cut.

Days of Future Passed- X-Men #141

I actually had a subscription to X-Men back in 1980, and this was one of the issues I got in the mail.  It, along with part 2, was John Byrne's penultimate story for this run of the X-men (I think there were two mutant titles published now... hard to believe, eh?).  It sure seems to have had quite the impact on the franchise now.  I would never have thought anything of it, other than it was an enjoyable tale, with the hints that it was NOT the same timeline as what we were actually getting. 

The big hint was in the future Colossus's middle name, which also led me to finding out the difference in male and female Russian (and other Slavic) family names.  Squirrel! 

Village of the Damned (1960) trailer

Based on the book "The Midwich Cuckoos" this is a pretty nifty little movie about children with odd powers. I'd almost think it was an influence on Stan Lee when he created the X-men a few years later. I liked it a lot more than the sequel "Children of the Damned". The moody black and white photography helps, as do those creepy English voices of the kids.

Wolverine and the X-Men (2009)

This is the fourth X-Men cartoon adaption.  I got it confused with the X-men as kids version, X-Men: Evolution, which I suppose I'll give a shot as well at some point.  This one is different, and pretty good.  Good voice cast and the animation is much better than the Fox show.

Of course, Wolverine is the new Batman, who is now the Silver Age Superman in that they can never be surprised or beaten.  That sure gets old after a while, but since he's now up there with Spidey and Cap as Marvel's top guns, I'm not surprised.  I'll just add right now that I hate Logan's ever changing "true" origins.  I'm so over that nonsense.  It's astounding to me that a team with three powerful telepaths couldn't sort out his brain in no time flat if they wanted to.

Sub-Mariner - Dr. Doom's Day

here's the first part of this story. it's actually the FF Annual story, I believe, where Sue and Reed get married. this has the X-men, Thor and the Sub-Mariner, as well as a host of villains. just great to see how they change the story to make it fit. all without using the true basis of the story!

First Class pt 2

the rest of the movie deals with Sebastian Shaw trying to start WW III via the Cuban Missile Crisis.  there's a pretty satisfactory battle on the beach of some small island between the good guys and the bad guys. Hank pretty much clobbers Azazel in the fight scene here.

X-Men: First Class (part one)

so far, I like it.  the mansion looks like it should, I think.  I like that they have actually set it in the 60s (after the beginning to show them as kids, of course).  it's established as the Xavier mansion right away, and Charles has his powers and likes them.
