From Wiki- The Invisible Ray is a 1936 American science-fiction horror film directed by Lambert Hillyer. It stars Boris Karloff

This is a gorgeous black and white movie. Hand of Death, from 1962, resembles this movie, though that is far sleazier. The performances here are really good, and it is well shot. The effects are pretty good, though mostly just superimposed glowing and some in camera light effects. Good movie.
